Bacara Resort & Spa

A sparkling Santa Barbara beach retreat
With its spectacular setting overlooking the Pacific and dash of old-time Hollywood glamour, The Ritz-Carlton Bacara, Santa Barbara is a jetsetter’s fantasy.

The luxurious rooms include Frette linens and private balconies. There are three infinity-edge pools on the grounds with 26 private cabanas.

And the spa has everything to help guests relax and feel pampered, from citrus-avocado body polishes to earth crystal therapies. There’s also golf, tennis, yoga, meditation and delicious California cuisine in the restaurant.
Our Inspector's Highlights
• Perched atop a bluff in Santa Barbara, the hotel’s 354 rooms are spread among several villas, creating the feeling of a small Mediterranean village.  With the views overlooking the Pacific Ocean and all the lush, tropical greenery, you’ll instantly feel like you’ve stepped into a little piece of paradise.

• The luxury hotel offers three saltwater swimming pools, all heated to 82 degrees F, plus a hot tub where you can soak away your stress.

• Whether you need recommendations for nearby vineyards to visit or want a seafood spot by the beach for dinner, the concierges will have you sorted out with reservations and directions in no time.

• With 37 treatment rooms, The Ritz-Carlton Bacara, Santa Barbara offers one of the state’s largest spas, and we really like the relaxed-yet-luxe vibe.  You’ll find standard Swedish massages along with a locally inspired citrus-avocado body polish and even Eastern-leaning offerings like reflexology.

• Sometimes resorts can be stuffy, but what sets The Ritz-Carlton Bacara, Santa Barbara apart is the warm and cheery staff.  Whether it's offering you a ride from Miró back to your room, or simply checking up on you to see if your poolside cocktail needs a refill, the staff here possess that laid back, unstuffy attitude that defines California cool.
Things to Know
• If you’re looking for peace and quiet, head to the spa pool, which is adults-only.

• While we love the wild look of the sand below the bluff on which the Santa Barbara hotel sits, you should be aware that natural tar regularly washes onto the water, especially during the summer months. If you want to spend your vacation lolling on a pristine beach, you may not want to do that here.

• Half of the standard guest rooms offer gas fireplaces, which we think add oodles of charm to the cozy, rustic-chic setting. Be sure to request one when you book.
The Rooms
• The 354 guest rooms divided among several villas share a color scheme of creams, browns and blues that’s designed to reflect the coastal setting.

• You’ll also find warm Mediterranean accents like wood beamed ceilings, Spanish tile floors, dark wood shutters and doors, and crisp blue-and-white Frette linens covering your curved iron bed frame.

• As you enter your room, you’ll see a brightly lit and spacious closet next to the door. The closet holds in-room amenities like an umbrella, robes, slippers and an electronic safe, though it’s too small for laptops unfortunately.

• Each bathroom features a deep soaking tub and a range of deliciously scented Fresh bath products for your enjoyment, so definitely consider a long delicious bubble bath during your stay.
The Restaurants
• The trendy and prestigious Miró serves unique New American cuisine such as roasted Santa Barbara mussels prepared with Vandouvan spice, white wine and tomato concasse.

• Whether you’re eating inside or outdoors, the rustic smell of the wood-burning oven permeates the space.

• The Bistro is a casual option, and the chef here masters Mediterranean-fusion cuisine.

• For a light bite, try the Spa Café. You won’t leave here feeling guilty, as every dish is low in calories and fat—even the desserts.
