W Taipei

Taipei's high-voltage urban oasis
VERIFIED LUXURY
When it opened in 2011, W Taipei elevated its surroundings with a bright, young feel and a free-flow of energy. Years later, it’s still an electric beacon in Taipei’s burgeoning Xinyi business district — comparable to New York’s Manhattan — pumping cool vibes out of every door, hallway and open window.

Designed by London-based G.A. Design International, the aesthetics aim for “nature electrified.” The result is a funky, fashionable and functional atmosphere. Throughout the 31-story hotel, you’ll find natural elements on all sides, including timber check-in counters, green walls by the 82-foot-long outdoor pool, and the glass water droplets at the spa — all filtered through a high-voltage lens.

Mastering the art of quirky luxury, the contemporary rooms feature cubist white cupboards and pops of bright colors and sculptures. Expect a walk-in rain shower, separate tub, smart toilet, plush W Bed, Bose sound systems and an iPod dock to keep the party going.

Woobar is the signature food and beverage destination at W Taipei, thanks to its exclusive atmosphere and sky-high ceilings. The cocktail list pours a dash of whimsy into every drink, and the snacks are amusingly served in test tubes borrowed from a science experiment.

Our Inspector's Highlights
  • W Taipei is located right in the heart of the Xinyi district, home to the city’s hottest nightlife and fashion, among other attractions.
  • Experiences at the sleek Away spa start in the ultra-modern reception room, where you can enjoy a chilled lemon and elderflower mocktail. The bespoke Body Refuel Treatment is highly recommended for road-weary travelers and wellness enthusiasts.
  • On pleasant evenings, snag a seat outdoors in one of the cocoon-like wooden chairs, or venture over to the neon-lit Wet bar.
  • The largest luxury hotel in Taipei, boasting 405 rooms and suites, the W maintains a fresh, young and energetic vibe.
  • You will want to work out in the Fit gym, where Technogym equipment, punching bags and free weights all look out at city views. Then relax in the locker room chaise lounges, which have individual TVs.
Things to Know
  • On the 10th-floor lobby level, you will find all the most important spots: the Welcome Desk, concierge, Woobar, The Kitchen Table restaurant and Wet pool area and bar.
  • The luxury hotel prides itself on its Whatever/Whenever service, promising to make any request happen, whether it’s help in planning an over-the-top proposal or having your luggage picked up at home and sent to the W.
  • Forgot your gym gear? Not to worry, stock up on bathing suits, sports bras and water bottles at the gym.
The Rooms
  • The contemporary décor features a mix of materials, including stone, glass and wood for a natural touch.
  • Each room comes equipped with a well-stocked Munchie Box, which is chock-full of unconventional items and way more fun than your average mini bar — think fishnet tights, hats, CDs, lip balm and a W Rubik's cube.
  • Tech meets style in these trendy quarters, so expect smart toilets, LCD TVs, charging docks and surround-sound.
  • Spectacular Rooms and Fantastic Suites give full-on vistas of the striking Taipei 101, which you can admire from the comfort of the window-side chaise lounge.
  • The most impressive option is the Extreme Wow Suite. The two-level, two-bedroom space is the largest suite in Taiwan. Of course its list of amenities goes on and on: nearly nine feet of windows affording city panoramas, a complete open kitchen, a master bathroom with a gym, etc.
The Restaurants
  • W Taipei is home to five restaurants and bars, including The Kitchen Table, Yen, Yen Bar, Woobar and Wet Bar.
  • The friendly, yellow The Kitchen Table restaurant is the go-to for all-day buffet-style dining, with stations for everything you can think of, from barbecue to fondue.
  • Upstairs on the 31st floor, you’ll find Yen. This popular Cantonese restaurant combines purple-tinted glass, beveled mirrors, wire lanterns and floor-to-ceiling windows for a glitzy dim sum experience.
  • Woobar is one of Taipei’s hottest bars. A fashionable crowd huddles on the red sofas over fun cocktails like the Asian Mind, oolong-tea-infused Tanqueray gin, Midori, grapefruit juice and fresh lemon juice.
