Pan Pacific Vancouver

A Vancouver highrise with a prime location
VERIFIED LUXURY
Located on the downtown waterfront behind the iconic white sails of the Canada Place complex, the deluxe Pan Pacific Vancouver has a prime location for anyone who appreciates the city’s prime waterfront views. Many of the 503 guest rooms, as well as the restaurants, lounge, terrace, and heated saltwater pool, look across the harbor to the North Shore Mountains and all the way to Stanley Park. Even the rooms that don’t face the water have attractive skyline vistas.

The Pan Pacific sits directly above the city’s main cruise ship terminal, so it’s popular with ocean-bound travelers. The guest rooms play up the cruise-ship setting white linens trimmed and nautical navy-blue piping. Book a room on the top-level Pacific Club floor —complete with a private concierge, exclusive lounge with complimentary breakfast, evening hors d’oeuvres, and even more spectacular views.

Our Inspector's Highlights
  • The Pan Pacific Vancouver is located on the waterfront in downtown Vancouver, a short walk from the city-center office towers, attractions, and department stores, and from the funkier boutiques, bars, and restaurants in the historic Gastown district.
  • The hotel is part of the Canada Place complex, which includes the cruise ship terminal. You can even take an elevator directly between the cruise terminal and the hotel lobby.
  • The open atrium-style lobby, where the main restaurant and lounge are located, has a soaring wall of windows that faces the harbor and nearby mountains.
  • It’s a convenient place to stay for both ocean-bound passengers and convention-goers. Waterfront Station, a hub for the city’s SkyTrain system and the departure point for the SeaBus ferry to North Vancouver, is one block from the Pan Pacific.
Things to Know
  • Since Vancouver’s weather is best from June through September, when the days are reliably sunny and warm, the summer months — particularly July and August — are the best times to stay at the Pan Pacific Vancouver.
  • With the hotel’s oversized windows looking out to the water and nearby mountains, the views are most spectacular on clear sunny days, which are also the best times to enjoy the hotel’s eighth-floor heated saltwater pool and spacious sundeck.
  • Vancouver’s biggest Canada Day celebration takes place on the waterfront around Canada Place, so staying at the Pan Pacific during that holiday on July 1 puts you right in the center of the action.
The Rooms
  • The guest rooms at the Pan Pacific Vancouver feel spacious and nautical, their shipshape design reflecting the hotel’s location atop the cruise ship terminal.
  • The best views are in the north- and west-facing rooms, which overlook the waterfront and the North Shore Mountains, or have a mix of city and water views.
  • Even the smallest quarters are roomy, at 350 square feet. The beds — either one king or two doubles — have white linens and duvets with navy-blue trim and padded white-leather headboards.
  • On the bedside tables are iPod clock radios and cordless phones, as well as convenient reading lights. The sizeable work desk, the cabinet housing the flat-screen TV, and other case goods are made of maple, and seating areas furnished with chocolate brown chairs or sofas are positioned to enjoy the vistas from the floor-to-ceiling windows.
The Restaurants
  • Café Pacifica, in the hotel lobby just past the concierge desk, serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner, including a daily breakfast buffet and a sumptuous Sunday brunch.
  • On Saturday evenings, the restaurant offers an Italian buffet, complete with live opera music.
  • Also in the hotel lobby, the Cascades Lounge serves a tapas-style menu from noon to midnight. You can also sit in the lounge, or out on the Patio Terrace, and order from the standard Café Pacifica menu.
  • Located one level up from the hotel lobby, Five Sails is the property’s fine dining restaurant, preparing contemporary fare with an emphasis on local ingredients. A highlight is the multicourse tasting menu.
