The more casual outpost from the dynamic duo (Forbes Travel Guide Tastemakers Daniel Humm and Will Guidara) behind Five-Star Eleven Madison Park, Atrium Restaurant at The NoMad is the epitome of city chic. Earning its name from the pyramidal glass roof above the main dining room, this New York restaurant is refined and trendy at once. Natural light floods in to highlight the elegant floral armchairs and dark wood tables, while evening brings a dimly lit atmosphere, accented by wall sconces. Chef Humm whips up divine dishes with the same expertise he displays at the more formal Eleven Madison Park. The menu is divided into several categories: snacks, appetizers, entrées and desserts. You’ll find options such as butter-dipped radishes with fleur de sel; smoked foie gras terrine with apple, sunflower seeds and thyme; and a whole-roasted chicken for two with foie gras, black truffles and brioche.

• This Forbes Travel Guide Recommended restaurant is a tough table to snag, so be sure to make reservations ahead of time. And pencil in some time to enjoy one of mixologist Leo Robitschek’s expertly crafted cocktails, like Mother's Little Helper (genever gin, pale cream sherry, Chambery dry vermouth, Triple Sec, elderflower liqueur and Peychaud's bitters).

• At Atrium, Humm turns out the same creative and top-notch cuisine that Eleven Madison Park is known for, but makes it more approachable — there aren’t any tasting menus and the offerings include a selection of snacks (albeit gourmet ones like chicken liver mousse with pistachio and rye). You also will see some variations of Eleven Madison Park dishes pop up on Atrium’s menu, such as the popular “milk and honey” dessert, a bowl of ice cream with broken honey-oat shortbread cookies, dehydrated milk foam chunks and honey brittle.

• You won’t find basic cuts of steak or boring roast chicken on this menu. Flavors are turned way up with the addition of foie gras, seasonal herbs and exotic ingredients.

• While there isn’t a dress code, locals always look stylish. This Forbes Travel Guide Recommended hot spot is the place to break out the cocktail dress and suit jacket.
The Food
• Fruits de mer. This seafood platter is perfectly proportioned for one person to have six tiny tastes of the sea, including an oyster, caviar and sea urchin. It’s briny, fresh and a great starter to warm up your taste buds.

• The pork belly dish incorporates duck fat so the skin of the pork is nice and crisp. The meat comes on a bed of peppery arugula and sprinkled with sweet cherries and a bacon marmalade — everything complements one another just right.

• The New York City restaurant’s signature meal is this dish for two is the roasted chicken stuffed with foie gras and black truffles is a rich and decadent take on a classic mainstay.

• Deconstructed carrot cake is served with dollops of rich cream cheese and pineapple sorbet for a tropical twist.

• The cocktail list at the contemporary American restaurant never stays the same for long, as house mixologist Leo Robitschek chases after seasonal ingredients and new techniques. During our visit, we enjoyed the Bamboo made with two kinds of imported sherry, a very dry vermouth, classic angostura bitters and orange bitters for a citrus note.
The Look
• Atrium Restaurant is located just off the main lobby of the über-stylish NoMad Hotel in Manhattan’s Flatiron district, so you know that the interior design is going to be well executed. The NoMad and its Forbes Travel Guide Recommended restaurant were inspired by classic hotels in Europe, specifically in Paris.

• The main draw in the 120-seat dining room is the contemporary American restaurant’s namesake — and you won’t have to look up to realize that the space is bright and airy from an overhead pyramidal glass atrium.

•  Throughout, you’ll see a Beaux-Arts theme, with a rosewood bar with sculpted wooden elephants flanking it, while framed photograph clusters add interest to the walls in the New York hotel.
