Caudalie Vinothérapie Spa

Caudalie Vinothérapie Spa is a destination retreat hidden away on the fourth floor of The Plaza Hotel. A relatively new addition to the storied New York hotel, the spa opened its doors following the completion of a $450 million renovation at The Plaza in 2008.

The urban oasis provides a relaxing experience. From the wine-inspired treatments (think a crushed cabernet scrub, winemaker's massage and fresh grape facial) to the French Paradox wine and relaxation lounge, you'll instantly feel like you escaped to the South of France.

The first (and only) Caudalie Spa location in the country, Mathilde Thomas — the spa's founder — along with her husband, Bertrand, have focused closely on the details of what makes the Caudalie brand unique. The interior décor is earthy and serene, and the spa feels spacious and calm. Drink in this delightful retreat.
Our Inspector's Highlights
  • The philosophy at Caudalie Vinothérapie Spa is based on a belief in the healing power of the all-natural antioxidants found in vine and grape extracts.
  • This "power of the vine" philosophy is evident throughout the New York spa. From the décor (lit with rich purples, with paintings of the family vineyards in France) to the treatment names (the Crushed Cabernet Scrub is unlike anything we’ve tried), you’ll be transfixed by the concept and eager to experience more.
  • The natural and organic healing power of Caudalie’s signature grape-based products produces profound and noticeable results very quickly. These products are available at the front desk for purchase.
  • If you’re in the mood for a hearty bite, simply let the spa staff know — it's happy to coordinate with The Plaza Hotel Food Hall by Todd English to get you something more substantial to pair with your wine-themed treatment.
  • Venture outside Caudalie Vinothérapie Spa and discover Fifth Avenue’s shopping scene — just steps from the front entrance of The Plaza Hotel.
Things to Know
  • Should you feel the urge to book a pampering session during your jaunt around the Big Apple, the best way to get an appointment is to call in advance.
  • The only location in the United States, Caudalie Vinothérapie Spa is open seven days a week, but appointments go fast. We suggest you call at least two weeks in advance to get the treatment time you prefer most.
  • If you’re a guest of The Plaza Hotel and you’re unable to snag an appointment at the spa, you can still take advantage of both the steam room and the wine and relaxation room that are located onsite.
  • Although salon services are not available at this New York spa, Caudalie has a relationship with the Warren-Tricomi Salon, also located inside The Plaza Hotel. When you are booking your treatment, let the spa staff know that you also would like to visit the salon for a cut, color, waxing, manicure or pedicure.
  • There’s a chance no one will stop you if you’re chatting on the phone in the waiting area or in the changing rooms, but if you’re in the French Paradox wine lounge, cell phone use is absolutely not allowed.
The Treatments
  • With the Caudalie Modelage treatment, you get a choice to a relaxing or toning massage. Whatever you decide, expect an experience that includes lymphatic drainage therapy as your vinotherapist resculpts your body to release the stress and tension of your day.
  • The Caudalie Grand Facial is designed for environmentally vulnerable skin, with an ability to improve your skin's texture, accelerate cell renewal and regulate moisture levels. It's the most requested treatment at the New York spa.
  • Attention travelers who come to run the New York City Marathon — the Sports Massage is for you. Designed to meet the needs of the athlete, this massage will help reduce the chance of injury and improve existing problems you have.
  • Another favorite among guests is the 140-minutes the Vinothérapie Spa Manicure and Pedicure, which also includes a head and neck massage. Nails and cuticles are cleansed, soaked and groomed with fresh grapes.
  • The Crushed Cabernet Scrub combines the best of what Caudalie has to offer. You'll love the mini massage that comes with the application of Caudalie's Contouring Concentrate and Nourishing Body Lotion as your skin's radiance is restored.
The Facilities
  • A string of metal beads are at the entrance of the minimalistic locker rooms. Once inside, pick an available locker and set an electronic key code to keep your belongings safe.
  • Each locker is stocked with a plush white robe and sandals for you to wear during your stay.
  • Allot some extra time during your visit to relax and recharge in the hammam steam rooms.
  • You’ll also want to allow time to unwind in the French Paradox wine lounge, the same place where you’ll wait for your treatment to begin. There, order a selection of cheeses and a glass of wine off the spa’s limited menu.
