The Rittenhouse Spa & Club — Hair by Paul Labrecque

Philadelphia’s urban retreat with a view
After the recent multi-million-dollar renovation of the nearly 15,000-square-foot Rittenhouse Spa & Club – Hair by Paul Labrecque, you may never want to leave the well-appointed, meticulously maintained wellness center.

Located within Philadelphia’s The Rittenhouse Hotel, the spa is the epitome of a true urban retreat. But as tranquil as it is, you never lose sight of the city. The sun-soaked property boasts ceiling skylights and walls of windows throughout. It provides a definitive nod to the iconic park below and 360-degree views of Philly.

The 30-plus organically based treatments cater to couples, brides and mamas-to-be, as well as groups and individual men and women in search of a solo sojourn. In any one of the 10 treatment rooms, beauty and bliss can be achieved with the spa’s luxe product offerings and therapeutic treatments.
Our Inspector's Highlights
  • There are several different areas within the Philadelphia spa, yet they all blend together quite well. The lobby is bright and airy and packed with products (expect a warm welcome accompanied by fruit-infused water and herbal tea).
  • A Gentleman’s Treatments menu features a few ultra-pampering services for guys — we like the Black Diamond Exfoliation, which uses black diamond dust to deeply clean and reinvigorate male skin.
  • A big draw here is Paul Labrecque’s full-service, 3,000-square-foot salon, the only one located outside of New York City. Labrecque is a renowned stylist who has sheared a host of A-listers.
  • Aside from runway-worthy cuts and colors, there is a two-chair private gentleman’s barbershop and grooming area. Its clubby design is a modern man cave, complete with a variety of indulgences, including selected scotch, cigars and craft brews.
Things to Know
  • The signature hour-long Indulgent Shave includes a hot towel steam, straight-edge razor shave, a soothing eye mask, scalp rub and face massage and mask.
  • The gym, too, has fantastic views of the city through large windows. There’s also a yoga studio and fitness classes that range from cardio dance to Pilates to strength training.
The Treatments
  • The luxury spa offers a bevy of treatments, including Thai and hot stone massage, reflexology, facials, detox wraps, scrubs and nail, lash and brow services.
  • The Hydrafacial MD involves a resurfacing treatment using LED light therapy to reduce signs of aging.
  • The Quartet massage is pitch perfect for those looking for the ultimate indulgence — two therapists give a rhythmic choreographed massaged.
  • The overall crowd-pleaser is The Rittenhouse, a classic massage that incorporates a sensuous mix of aromatherapy and bliss-inducing rubdown techniques.
The Facilities
  • Once led to the spa’s treatment rooms through a candlelit hallway, the tone changes with more subdued hues and dimly lit spaces. There’s a large couples suite and another spa suite designed to host small groups up to eight people.
  • A dark and cozy relaxation room is filled with plush wraparound sofas and luxe fabrics. Locker rooms are expansive and both the men’s and women’s have a sauna and steam room.
  • Those looking to get a sweat on, the fitness center filled with Technogym equipment, a Pilates reformer and indoor cycling bikes should do the trick.
  • The large atrium/indoor heated pool area is a nice spot to unwind after a treatment, but nothing beats the adjacent outdoor terrace when the weather is nice.
