Our Inspector's Highlights
• Once you glimpse the spa's tranquil atmosphere and long list of pampering treatments, you’ll want to book your appointment. Who wouldn’t want to experience total relaxation with, say, a couples massage or bamboo lemongrass body scrub in one of the 36 ultra-plush treatment rooms within the 42,000-square-foot facility?

• Five minutes before your treatment begins, you’ll want to head upstairs to the cozy waiting area where you can enjoy a quick cup of tea or flip through a magazine before your massage or facial’s appointed start time.

• At this resort spa, waiting won’t feel like waiting at all — it’ll feel like bliss.

• The relaxation lounges are segregated by gender, though there’s a small sitting area between the two lounges at the landing of the staircase, should you and your companion want a little together time before your treatments.

• Spa guests are welcome to complimentary fitness classes and walks, and you can also get personalized consultation for yoga, Pilates, cardio instruction and nutritional and spa recommendations.
Things to Know
• Whether you want to improve the way you feel or want to give your appearance a little boost, call the spa directly to book your appointment.

• If you have to cancel, give the spa at least 24 hours notice, or you’ll be charged the full price of the service.

• Since you can order whole dishes like a romaine and gorgonzola salad or a turkey breast sandwich on La Brea bakery bread at the adjacent Spa Café, you won’t find a ton of refreshments.
The Treatments
• Though the Bacara Rooftop Mud Bar treatment requires a bit of work, it's worth it. The self-applied marine mud will leave you feeling like a whole new person, as it helps detox, lift water retention and nourish your skin with antioxidants and minerals.
• The invigorating Bacara Citrus Avocado Body Polish is inspired by the organic fruits and vegetables found nearby, and combines mineral salt with avocado, orange, lemon and tangerine oils. After your skin’s scrubbed and renewed, you’ll undergo a warm Swiss shower followed by an application of avocado oil-and-shea-butter lotion.

• If you’re interested in ayurvedic healing, check out Abyangha. This Indian-inspired, light-touch herbal oil massage is designed to calm the nervous system and balance the mind while also stimulating the circulatory and lymphatic systems.

• With a portion of the proceeds goes to the Gaviota Coast Conservancy. the signature BABOR Seacreation Facial is one that will make you feel good inside and out. Using extracts of microorganisms that are found at the bottom of the ocean allows you to see dramatic improvements in your skin.

• Bacara Body Melt is a gentle scrub followed by a warm Swiss shower prepares you for a full-body massage with eucalyptus and ylang ylang essential oils to help soothe your muscles and nourish your skin while soothing heat is applied all over. In a word, bliss.
The Facilities
• The fitness center is not your typical gym; it boasts a 3,500-square-foot cardiovascular and strength training center, a yoga and Pilates studio (with full Cadillac Reformers) and four tennis courts.

• The male and female locker rooms boast spacious wood lockers where you’ll find your white Frette robes and which feature plenty of space to store your belongings.

• After undressing, definitely head to the back of the locker room where you’ll find the white tiled eucalyptus steam room, the compact sauna and the bubbling Jacuzzi pool flanked by cozy lounge chairs.

• And, of course, you’re welcome to arrive early to enjoy the amenities like the adults-only swimming pool, which is flanked by comfortable lounge chairs where you can catch up on a little pre-rest and relaxation before the real rest and relaxation begins.

• We highly recommend spending some time in the single sex relaxation lounge — notably in front of the wood-burning fireplace where you’ll stay warm and toasty before and after your Swedish sport massage.
