- It’s easy to spend your entire vacation on the resort’s 17 acres. From complimentary fly-fishing rods and mountain bikes to an onsite croquet field, outdoor pursuits abound.
- Huka has seen its fair share of well-heeled guests, none more famous than Queen Elizabeth II, who has visited the property on four separate occasions. Other famous names include author James Mitchener, who wrote Return to Paradise on property, Michelle Obama, Victoria Beckham and Tilda Swinton.
- Cuisine is managed by acclaimed British chef Paul Froggatt, and always starts with (included) pre-dinner canapes. Over 20 dining venues and spaces exist for candlelit dinners. With so many options, you’ll occasionally get the sense that you’re alone at the resort.
- The property has an almost Scottish vibe (a nod to the original hunting lodge). You’ll find a Barclay Hunting tartan carpet in the lodge and rich greens and blues in the room palettes.

- Don’t miss antiques and objets d’art from around the world throughout the property. You’ll also notice portraits of Maori locals by artists like Gottfried Lindauer and C. F. Goldie.
- Rates include breakfast, plus a five-course dinner, pre-dinner canapes nightly and transfers to Taupo Airport, if needed.
- One of our favorite experiences is a day visiting nearby wineries – travel to and from Hawke’s Bay in a private plane, learn about the unique terroir and visit a local vineyard. On the return, fly over the Kaimanawa Forest Park and Mohaka River for some spectacular scenery.

- All rooms offer heated floors, fireplaces and gorgeous views of the resort grounds.
- For a true VIP experience, book the Alan Pye Cottage, named after the property’s founder. Inspired by the English Arts and Crafts movement (see: a profound interest in craftsmanship, hand prints and decorative arts), the unit features a private pool, outdoor dining space, a fireplace and the services of a chef and butler.
- Another beauty is the Owner’s Cottage, a four-bedroom hideaway with breathtaking vistas of Waikato River.
Nearby Attractions
- Speaking of the Waikato River, you won’t want to miss the chance to follow it through the gorge and visit the famous Huka Falls during one of your day trips.
- Wairakkei International Golf Course (which is also a wildlife reserve) is a must for golfers and animal lovers, and it’s just a five-minute drive from the hotel.
- In the winter, you’ll be able to ski at Whakapapa ski field, which sits roughly 60 miles south of the property.
