Occupying 27 floors directly above Central
Embassy, one of Bangkok’s
newest luxury shopping malls, Park Hyatt Bangkok has a commanding presence in
the city’s downtown area. Even with its prime location, it manages to maintain
an intimate feel throughout, thanks to a tranquil design by renowned London architecture
firm AL_A, which was asked to replicate the privacy and calm of a residence.
This is clear from the moment you
enter the petite lobby or start exploring the hotel’s many nooks, where pieces
from the property’s impressive art collection can be found. From huge installations
by Japanese sculptor Hirotoshi Sawada to colorful silk pieces by Thai artist Chatchai Puipiato a stainless-steel
meteorite by Chinese sculptor Zhang Wang, this collection is so extensive the
hotel offers in-house art tours. (And the building itself also is a piece of
art: an aerial view reveals its shape resembles a 3D figure eight — an auspicious
number in Chinese culture — and it’s covered in shimmering aluminum tiles, a
nod to Thai design.)
These pieces
are great conversation starters while sipping cocktails on the air-conditioned
10th-floor terrace of The Bar or savoring breakfast and skyline views in the
elegant Embassy Room.
