Faena Hotel Buenos Aires

Buenos Aires' sultry luxury hotel
VERIFIED LUXURY
The red brick exterior of Faena Hotel Buenos Aires projects a low profile, but the interiors of the luxury hotel are bathed in rich reds and black marble, creating a sexy, dramatic ambiance.

Doormen don elegant top hats and long-tailed coats, but Faena Hotel is far from staid — its endlessly hip, with beautiful people mingling about its roster of swank niceties such as the clubby Library Lounge and the sceney pool bar.

Designed by the ever-inventive Philippe Starck in collaboration with fashion impresario and owner Alan Faena, the unique hotel in the buzzy Puerto Madero neighborhood of Buenos Aires appeals to traveling celebrities and stylish, influential local movers and shakers.

Our Inspector's Highlights
  • Tucked toward the back of the ground floor is the hotel’s cabaret where performers put on a fiery contemporary tango show.
  • The spa specializes in holistic treatments performed in a handsome space that includes a hammam, a sauna, a beauty lounge and a fitness center.
  • The Faena Hotel’s two restaurants, El Mercado and Bistro Sur, each posses their own distinct décor, but both foucs on presenting traditional Argentine cuisine in inventive ways.
  • The Library Lounge is a place to see and be seen. Beloved Argentine artist Charly Garcia has tickled the ivories on the lounge’s baby grand.
  • The hotel anchors the eponymous Faena District, a micro-neighborhood that aims to combine art, recreation, nature and sustainable architecture. It includes a handful of luxe apartments and the Faena Arts Center.
Things to Know
  • In the warm months the party spills out onto the glitzy pool area, where luxe red loungers line the infinity-edge pool and a giant bedazzled crown serves as the pool centerpiece.
  • A little over a decade ago, Puerto Madero was nothing but undeveloped waterfront land. Today the neighborhood along the Río de la Plata buzzes with activity and is home to the Faena Hotel, trendy restaurants and shiny high-rises.
  • Faena Hotel Buenos Aires stands on the east side of Puerto Madero and is near all the city’s major tourist attractions, including El Obelisco and the ecological reserve
The Rooms
  • The design of the Faena Hotel is a contemporary remix of Belle Époque. The rooms are no exception and are dramatically dressed in red velvet curtains, white leather furnishings, lapacho wood floors and gold accents.
  • The smallest rooms are intimate at 375 square feet, while the larger suites run up to 3,875 square feet.
  • Luxury amenities include home theater systems, smart TVs and sweeping views of the ecological reserve, parks, Río de la Plata and the quaysides of Puerto Madero seen through large picture windows.
  • Some rooms are outfitted with gorgeous claw foot tubs in the glass-walled bathrooms.
The Restaurants
  • For sustenance, visit the two elegant on-site restaurants: El Mercado and Bistro Sur.
  • El Mercado was created in the vision of old European markets, but with a Buenos Aires flair. Enjoy Argentine cuisine cooked in a traditional adobe oven.
  • The glamorous Bistro Sur is bathed in all-white whimsical décor including striking unicorn busts and sparkling chandeliers. Inventive Argentine fare is served here like pink salmon paella or caramelized pears topped with cinnamon ice cream.
  • The brick walls of wine cellar La Cava hold more than 4,000 bottles — it's the most comprehensive wine collection in Argentina. Enjoy an intimate candlelight dinner (with some wine, of course) in the underground space.
