Our Inspector's Highlights

  • The bright and leafy Brasserie Ayda specializes in flavorful Mediterranean fare, like charred octopus with herb gremolata, lobster linguine and prawns ouzo saganaki.
Enjoy a dip in a refreshing oasis at Le Jardin Pool Bar. Surrounded by lush foliage and red-and-white striped vintage-inspired loungers and cabanas, the retreat’s secret garden-like ambiance provides a welcome retreat from Cairo’s bustling streets.
  • Take a step back in time at Bar Raa. Named for the ancient Egyptian sun god and styled to reflect art deco elegance, the stylish space offers live jazz, creative cocktails and a delightful menu of light bites to enjoy after a long day of sightseeing. For another bar option, New York comes to Cairo in the form of the Waldorf Astoria’s signature Peacock Lounge. Though here, the lounge comes with tall palm trees. The pink-hued room’s plush settees and low lighting provide a comfortable spot to indulge in another of the hotel’s storied traditions: afternoon tea.
  • The Waldorf Astoria Spa specializes in nature-inspired treatments best enjoyed on one of two psammo therapy tables. Taking a cue from ancient Egyptian tradition, this hot sand therapy envelops you in warmth to both relax tense muscles and provide a comforting warming sensation. It also will offer four treatment suites.
  • The luxury hotel occupies a prime location in historic Heliopolis, placing you within 10 miles of sites like downtown Cairo, Khan El Khalili Bazaar, the Grand Egyptian Museum and Cairo International Airport.

The Look

  • Crafted by London-based firm Adrian Barboza Design, Waldorf Astoria Cairo Heliopolis’ interiors are a stylish blend of art deco motifs and pharaonic references. A Nile-inspired palette of blues and greens, warm woods and natural materials like sandstone bring the outdoors in, without the sometimes-brutal desert sun.
  • Among the subtle nods to Egyptian history is the glass-walled atrium, curved to match the shape of the eye of Ra, a classic religious symbol in ancient Egyptian mythology.
  • Upon entering the lobby, look for the iconic Waldorf Astoria clock. The Cairo version features two rings of flowing water surrounding the clock face in a tribute to the Nile.
  • White and blue lotuses are incorporated into the artwork of the Cairo hotel’s rooms and suites. The ancient symbols were believed to be beacons of strength and power.
