The Ritz-Carlton, Chengdu

A luxurious retreat in southwestern China
VERIFIED LUXURY
The historic city of Chengdu is the starting point for most journeys into western China. A cosmopolitan outpost in the Sichuan region, Chengdu is famous for its giant panda sanctuaries, spicy cuisine, historic teahouses and vibrant markets.

In the center of it all is The Ritz-Carlton, Chengdu, overlooking Tianfu Square. Conveniently located in the central business district, the luxurious address offers easy access to the city’s cultural landmarks. Opened in 2013, the 41-story tower was built near a newly discovered site of a former imperial palace and the land’s majestic history feels as though it’s been embodied by the contemporary high-rise.

Inside, find destination restaurants, tea-themed spa treatments and extensive business facilities.

Modeled after traditional Chinese courtyard homes, guest rooms combine touches of old and new for a stylish result — picture various types of marble, damask furnishings, warm wood accents and bright windows overlooking the city.

Things to Know

  • Chengdu is known for its beautiful silks, spices, tea and red-hot Sichuan cuisine — and was even named a UNESCO “City of Gastronomy.”
  • The city itself is easy to explore thanks to cheap taxis and an efficient metro system.
  • Outside of the city, explore China’s rural beauty in areas like the Jiuzhai Valley National Park, Mount Qingcheng, or the Chengdu panda base.
  • The hotel also operates a private tea estate — about 62 miles southeast of Chengdu, near Mount Men Ding — where you can arrange a private visit.
The Rooms
  • The urban retreat is home to 353 sky-high guest rooms that are among the largest in the city, starting from 538 square feet.
  • Each room feels like a contemporary interpretation of a traditional courtyard residence, with wood details and Chinese artwork, as well as several types of local tea available.

  • All-day dining sees a theatric spin at Spices, where chefs showcase international cooking techniques at live stations.
  • Afternoon tea is best enjoyed at the panoramic Lobby Lounge on the 25th floor. Stratospheric views combine with a traditional tea service for lavish experience.
  • If sundown calls for a chilled cocktail or a nip of cognac, head to Flair Restaurant & Bar, where drinks can be enjoyed with sushi or tapas on a terrace.
