- There’s thoughtful design and then there’s Daxton, a place where a keen decorative eye can be spotted at every turn — be it with herringbone tile in a fireplace, avant-garde globe lighting in a hallway or 65-inch televisions framed like an oil painting. The hotel is an interior design magazine come to life.
- Nowhere is that artful appreciation felt more than in the guest rooms. Velvet sofas, leather headboards and burnished nickel light fixtures highlight these wondrous spaces. The Colby Suite fills its 740-square-foot easel with a marble-backed bar and a stylish dining area, but no canvas is as brilliant as the one captured of the outdoors from the suite’s wraparound terrace.
- Whether it’s drinks at the gorgeous Geode Bar & Lounge or dinner at Madam, where executive chef Rece Hogerheide brings a passion for sustainability and sophistication to every meal, Daxton’s sense of subtle showmanship never ceases.
- One of Daxton’s most impressive features is its art collection. In the public spaces you’ll find a nine-foot Pink Bunny (Saatchi Art, Roark Gourley and Mark Mitchell) and a majestic Mechanical Horse (Adrian Landon). In rooms, you’ll spot vibrant pieces from the likes of Karin Vermeer and Mercedes Lagunas. And if you’re lucky, your stay may coincide with a local designer’s lobby fashion show or an onsite class with somebody such as Detroit artist Abigail Murray.
