Six Senses Ibiza

A spiritual retreat for the mind and body
VERIFIED LUXURY

Dip into the serene waters of Xarraca Bay while staying at Six Senses Ibiza, a 137-room hotel on the northern edge of the island. You could spend your whole time on the beach, but this relaxed luxury retreat aims to be a place for sustainability and wellness, too. On the sustainability front, the property has solar panels that churn out 10 percent of its electricity, geothermal cooling systems that save 10 Olympic-sized pools’ worth of water yearly, renewable energy that cuts 40 percent of its carbon emissions and a farm that produces organic vegetables and fruits for the hotel restaurants.

The wellness offerings are plentiful: the spa provides a lengthy list of treatments that span biohacking to alchemy, there’s a rotating roster of visiting experts and multi-day immersion programs target everything from sleep to fitness. Here you can meditate in or explore the natural beauty that surrounds the property, including beachfront caves overlooking the pristine Platja de Cala Xarraca. Not only that, there are 20 acres of lush and beautiful land you can take in without ever leaving the resort.

Though if you do venture out, shop the local Sunday craft market in San Juan, participate in sunset drumming at the U-shaped Benirras bay or visit the famed Es Vedra, which some people believe is the tip of the mythical island of Atlantis.

Our Inspector's Highlights

  • While the bay outside sparkles in shades of blue, the guest rooms have warm earth tones and dark wood highlights, and many sport stand-alone soaking tubs. Book a Junior or One-Bedroom Suite, which come with patios and stunning views. The accommodations on the top floor of the Village Wing also have outdoor access via the rooftop terrace garden.
  • Visit Six Senses’ 400-year-old olive press and agricultural estate in the village of Santa Gertrudis, just 15 minutes away from the Ibiza hotel. It's a source of sustainable and hyper-local produce for Six Senses, and you can take part in growing your own food. Then, sample the fresh goods at the restaurants and juice bar. Check the event schedule too for chef-led pop-up events on the farm.
  • When night falls, The Beach Caves light up. Mimicking the natural stone grottos around the area, it is a dining and relaxation area overlooking Xarraca Bay. Here, enjoy sushi and Japanese-inspired fare by NYC import BONDST. Live music makes it a party spot.
  • The fitness area features a yoga deck that faces the sea and an outside boxing ring. Inside you'll find a modern gym, with a calendar chock-full of exercise classes you can take.
  • The spa is just under 13,000 square feet and should be visited. It features a rejuvenating caldarium bath, a sauna, a steam room, two types of showers, a hammam and a relaxation area. Inside the five treatment rooms, which include three couples suites, reserve a service such as the Dreamcatcher (a full-body massage followed by a bath to send you off into slumber) and the 528 Hz Facial (which uses a tuning fork).

The Restaurants

  • The four restaurants are overseen by celebrity chef Eyal Shani, known as the founding father of new Israeli cuisine. HaSalon is the sister eatery to his Tel Aviv spot of the same name. The theme is Ibizan sustainability, and the chef uses eggs from the hotel's chickens, biodynamic wines, locally caught seafood, grass-fed meats and plenty of produce from the farm.
  • Start the day off with a fresh juice and then end it with a mocktail, all from the breezy Pharmacy Bar. The drinks here aim to promote health and wellness, though you can still get an expertly crafted cocktail when the mood strikes.
  • Under the citrus trees, find the beautiful courtyard eatery The Orchard. The menu features regional favorites and local ingredients, plant-based foods and a large list of mezcal and other drinks. It's next to The Market, an even more laidback place to get fresh foods and produce, wood-fired pizza and pinchos, also known as Spanish appetizers.
