Forbes Travel Guide performs independent, incognito inspections of all hotels we rate. This is what we paid when we stayed at this hotel.

Embracing a panoramic view of Istanbul with its height, the structure stands tall in the core of the historic city, as if a megalith landed here from space. Following a multi-million-dollar renovation completed in 2018, the property’s interior design also reflects this dichotomy: it has a contemporary spirit with classical touches bearing an Ottoman flair that pay homage to the city.

While everything seems to revolve around that dazzling view, the hotel also is known for its signature Ritz-Carlton service with a distinctly local touch.

Our Inspector's Highlights

The lobby area is spacious with high ceilings, flowing into Atölye Restaurant on one end and transforming into Bleu Lounge at the other. But no matter where you choose to hole up, you can be sure to enjoy an almost aquarium-like view of the Bosphorus strait through endless walls of windows.
Though centrally located, the building is accessed through a winding road diverting from main traffic routes, giving it a secluded position not readily accessible by pedestrian crowds.
Take advantage of the Pilates reformer if you want a workout at the luxury hotel. With room for only two participants, the offering feels more like a semi-private training session than a fitness class.
The property’s chic accommodations feature artistic local touches. Look out for glazed replicas of ancient Ottoman Empire coins and stunning cobalt-blue Anatolian ceramics in your room.

Things to Know

The sleek skyscraper is perched on a slope that requires either an uphill or downhill walk to the major attractions nearby. Even if points of interest look close on the map, consider the climb before heading out for the day.

The Ritz-Carlton, Istanbul is behind one of the city’s major soccer stadiums (Vodafone Park), so in addition to the Bosphorus view, there is also a chance you’ll see an exciting match below. Luckily, the windows are soundproof to eliminate disturbance.

The Rooms

All 243 newly refurbished rooms (including 23 suites) are chicly outfitted in light beige tones and soothing creamy colors spiked with lovely turquoise that mimics the stunning Bosphorus.
Wall-to-wall windows put the city on full display, especially in strait-facing rooms. In most accommodations, the plush beds face the gorgeous view so you can wake up to a stellar sunrise over the bustling waterway.
Marble bathrooms have soaking tubs, separate rain showers and water closets, and are equipped with fragrant Asprey toiletries.
To make the most of your waterside locale, book the Presidential Suite. This 1,920-square-foot space affords panoramic Bosphorus vistas from an expansive outdoor dining area, complete with a Jacuzzi and fire pit.
The Nobu Suite combines Japanese traditions (like an uforo tub) with the city's culture (a standout view of the Bosphorus). It opens up to a spacious terrace that is rare in this area.

The Restaurants

Dine on international fare with an Anatolian twist at Atölye. While the flavors are global, many of the ingredients are local, such as organic olive oil from Ayvalik and housemade bread served on hot stones sourced from Konya.

Stop by Bleu Lounge for Sunday brunch, featuring a sumptuous spread of local and international specialties, live piano music and a dedicated area for children. Also, come here for a refreshing afternoon tea, visit the elegantly adorned Bleu Lounge just off the lobby.
Surrounded by lush greenery, with an infinity pool, The Roof affords fantastic views of the Bosphorus along with an intimate atmosphere. Enjoy hand-crafted cocktails as well as regular live DJ performances, open-air film screenings and other events.
Indulge in Nobu’s world-renowned Japanese-Peruvian cuisine in the heart of Istanbul. A trendy spot for Istanbulites, Nobu Istanbul serves the restaurant’s iconic dishes and local specials in a modern dining room and a terrace overlooking the stunning Bosphorus.
