The St. Regis Astana

Kazakh luxury on the Ishim River
VERIFIED LUXURY

Panache and pride of place go elegantly hand in hand at The St. Regis Astana. Grandly rising on the banks of the Ishim River with its plentiful promenades and lush foliage from the surrounding Central Park, the 120-room hotel enjoys a more tranquil feel than other properties in the area.

You only get one chance at a first impression, and the luxury hotel doesn’t disappoint. Pulling into the arrival yurt with its life-sized statue of three rearing horses is an appropriately regal welcome that serves as a fitting tribute to the region’s historically nomadic lifestyle. Further nods to the property’s roots can be found inside, where sumptuous fabrics, elegant equine design details and signature St. Regis service are all on display.

After admiring the gorgeous interiors, lush garden pathways along the river await afternoon exploration. Not to mention, some of the city’s highlights, including the Baiterek Monument and Hazrat Sultan Mosque, are all just a short drive away.

Our Inspector's Highlights

  • Each of The St. Regis Astana’s rooms blends local and luxurious elements. They have beautiful horse imagery from acclaimed photographers Gilles Perrin and Gígja Einarsdóttir, Geneva wireless sound systems and heated floors in the white marble bathrooms.
  • Two chic dining rooms offer plenty of mouthwatering delights to satisfy you throughout your stay. La Riviere serves a bountiful buffet breakfast and à la carte Italian cuisine for lunch and dinner, while Asakusa turns out izakaya-style Japanese fare Wednesday through Sunday evenings.
  • The St. Regis Bar is a hot after-work spot among locals. Sink into one of the large gray armchairs and sip on a glass of bubbles while soaking up the lively ambiance and the mural of the golden samruk, a phoenix-like bird that’s part of Kazakh mythology.
  • On the Astana hotel’s third floor is a beautiful heated indoor pool. A serene spot for a swim, the facility’s glass windows allow you to soak up views of the Ishim River, Ramstor Bridge and Nur-Sultan in the distance.
  • Whether you stay in a room or suite, you’ll receive butler service. Your dedicated butler will unpack and pack for you, deliver coffee and tea whenever you want it, and arrange to have any clothing pressed (guests get two pieces done complimentary daily).

The Look

  • Imagined by architecture firm WATG, The St. Regis Astana artfully embodies the country’s heritage, drawing design inspiration from the legacy of Genghis Khan. A large central structure resembles a glass-encased yurt while horses play a prominent role in the interior design.
  • Classical St. Regis style is further enriched with luxurious local touches. Materials like silk, felt, velvet and fur combine with intricately carved wood panels and richly embroidered carpets to create a sumptuous sense of place.
  • This classic-meets-contemporary design ethos is best expressed in The St. Regis Astana’s lobby, where old-fashioned wing-backed chairs in chic gray tones and plush velvet armchairs trimmed with gold accents sit among double-height ceilings supported by geometric-patterned columns. An animal-print-inspired rug ties the colors together while a suspended crystal installation mimics a night sky full of stars.
  • An earthy color palette used throughout the luxury hotel pays tribute to the Kazakh people’s ancestral attachment to the land. Dark woods, soothing tones of cream and beige and the occasional burst of gold keep things elegantly consistent.
