Nearby, David Spriggs’ Holos sculpture of acrylic on layered plexiglass in an LED-lit plexiglass display case looks like an illusion. Around the corner, a 1913 Nickelodeon piano covered in mirrored tiles — outfitted with a xylophone, lights and an automatic player option — belonged to Liberace, who famously had a residency at the Hilton. The unusual instrument serves as a reminder of the hotel brand’s role in making Las Vegas the entertainment capital it is today.
More eye-catching art — many of it in vibrant shades of red and orange — adorns the walls of the accommodations in the 1,496-room property, the largest Conrad in the world.
Of course, there’s much to see beyond art at Resorts World, which also is home to Crockfords Las Vegas, LXR Hotels & Resorts and Las Vegas Hilton. One of the largest installations is the 50-foot-tall LED Globe in the shopping esplanade. Watch a short light, music and video show every hour on the hour from noon to 1 a.m. on the Globe’s surface. Another must-see is Red Hong Yi’s portrait at Famous Foods that’s made of 20,000 tea bags painstakingly dyed with teh tarik, a Malaysian milk tea.
