The Beaumont

Old World charm in Mayfair
VERIFIED LUXURY

The Beaumont is a discreet yet glamorous hotel in one of London’s most affluent areas. The art deco building is quiet and compact, cloistered on a Mayfair street that overlooks Brown Hart Gardens, a 10,000-square-foot public square.

The independent hotel was designed by famed Fortnum & Mason architects Wimperis & Simpson and exudes a sense of grandeur while maintaining an inviting atmosphere from the moment one enters its glass revolving doors. Warm walnut paneling, mellow lighting and oxblood-red interior furnishings that give a gentle nod to a bygone era feel equal parts formal and homey.

There’s an undeniable essence of Old World charm here. A tender smile at reception, a printed map of the local area handed to you upon arrival and the gentle hum of conversation and crockery clinking just beyond the lobby in The Magritte Bar all make you feel settled in within moments.

You’ll notice bookshelves stacked with Hemingway and Fitzgerald, and everywhere you turn there is art, including elegant paintings hanging from the walls, antique coffee tables and other vintage curios.

Our Inspector's Highlights

  • The Colony Grill Room’s timeless menu of transatlantic favorites, such as steak tartare; buttermilk fried spring chicken; South Coast Dover sole; and The Beaumont Cobb salad, prepared tableside, are delicious and authentic, but a meal here won’t be complete without a build-your-own ice cream sundae for dessert..
  • Antony Gormley, creator of the Angel of the North (one of Britain’s most famous sculptures), designed a room, which can be seen from the exterior, jutting out of the building in a modern, cube-shaped structure.
  • If you’re into antiques, you’ll enjoy playing “I spy” with the numerous objets d’art that are scattered throughout the London hotel.
  • Le Magritte Bar specializes in bourbons, American whiskies and classic cocktails, and while the drinks are fabulous, the art is even better. A painting by the bar’s namesake, René Magritte, takes center stage. In the morning, it switches gears and serves The Beaumont Baker’s Basket with croissants, pains au chocolat and pastries from the in-house bakery, alongside a selection of seasonal preserves and rooftop honey. The basket comes with juice and a coffee or tea.

Things to Know

  • Gatsby's Room is the heart of the hotel: a welcoming, relaxing place to gather from early morning until late at night. An excellent coffee, a sophisticated cocktail, a glass of vintage champagne or a light meal can be enjoyed here. Live piano music completes the intimate atmosphere with two daily sets for afternoon tea and from Thursday to Saturday for evening cocktails.
  • If you need a ride close by, see if the chauffeur-driven house car is available.
  • The new Terrace offers alfresco drinking and dining overlooking Brown Hart Gardens with 1920s-style rattan armchairs and café tables surrounded by lush greenery. The Terrace can be covered and heated in colder weather.

The Rooms

  • Quirky flourishes like Beaumont-branded playing cards combine with all-out luxury such as marble bathtubs to create a uniquely playful aesthetic in the 50 rooms and 22 suites and studios.
  • The Roosevelt Suite is both opulent and versatile. For those traveling in large groups, it can be opened up to occupy the entire fifth floor, encompassing five adjoining bedrooms as well as a large terrace.
  • Anthony Gormley’s ROOM is a one-bedroom suite consisting of a dark oak-clad bedroom and a starkly contrasting pure white marble bathroom.
  • Dip into the mini-bar for complimentary organic coffees, teas, soft drinks, water and snacks.

Nearby Attractions

  • The Beaumont gives you a little map of curated shopping recommendations, so you’ll know exactly where to go for the best gifts, from silk scarves to fragranced candles.
  • A lovely way to start the day is by simply going for a stroll through the picture-perfect streets of Mayfair. Head to gourmet Mount Street Deli for a takeaway coffee before crossing over to the legendary Hyde Park.
  • While there’s plenty of art to be enjoyed inside the boutique hotel, there are many galleries within walking distance, too. Victoria Miro Mayfair, Gagosian and Hauser & Wirth are all worth a visit.
