Forbes Travel Guide performs independent, incognito inspections of all hotels we rate. This is what we paid when we stayed at this hotel.

Our Inspector's Highlights

You really couldn't ask for a better location in New York. The hotel offers easy access to and from all the major sights via subway — or by foot.
The Fifth Avenue locale makes window shopping (and buying) easy to do. With so many shops owned by the world's best designers nearby, it's a great location for creativity and style to strike.
Andaz 5th Avenue pays tribute to the New York Public Library (located across the street) with its own mini library inside the lobby lounge. Guests can sip a complimentary glass of wine as they peruse the book collection.
The property boasts high ceilings, tall glass doors, rich woods and original modern art. There's even an outdoor mural that changes every three months, thanks to the Midtown Manhattan hotel’s artist-in-residence program.

Things to Know

During the winter months, a skating rink is set up in the Bryant Park across the street — and in December, it comes alive with shops from local artisans selling unique gifts.
In the spring and summer, you can dine alfresco in the park and catch an outdoor movie, play or concert.
Andaz is also close to Times Square and Broadway shows; the concierges at the Midtown Manhattan hotel are happy to help with reservations, recommendations and more.

The Rooms

Design by Tony Chi, each room is minimalistic. But with floor-to-ceiling views of either Fifth Avenue or the New York Public Library, there's no need to be heavy-handed with the décor.
Rooms at Andaz 5th Avenue are like personal pre-war apartments in the city. Except unlike the studio down the street, your spacious lodgings include porcelain foot baths, a complimentary mini-bar with non-alcoholic beverages and snacks, and free Wi-Fi.
Out of the 184 guest rooms, there are 54 suites, many of which come with private balconies or landscaped terraces that offer postcard views of the city.
The New York City hotel is sophisticated (there's a reason Vogue has hosted Fashion Week parties here) — but the low-key, slightly edgy vibe takes the pressure off and is designed to mirror the comfort of home.

The Restaurants

Andaz 5th Avenue’s restaurant The Bar Downstairs & Kitchen serves breakfast, lunch and weekend brunch, all sourced locally from top-notch New York institutions (breads from Balthazar Bakery, meats from Katz's Delicatessen and cheeses from Murray's Cheese Shop, to name a few).
An open kitchen gives you a bird's-eye view of every dish executive chef Christian Clark prepares, and floor-to-ceiling windows provide gorgeous natural light — and an uninterrupted view of the beaux-arts New York Public Library.
For a lighter bite and cocktails, stop by in the evenings. The speakeasy ambience makes it a popular spot, so we’d recommend making a reservation.
