The Wall Street Hotel

The pearl of Wall Street
VERIFIED LUXURY

When one imagines Wall Street, the world “familial” does not spring to mind; however, staying at The Wall Street Hotel might change that. The vintage family photos that dot the hallways come straight from the hotel’s owners, the Paspaleys, who have harvested pearls off Australia’s coast for the last hundred years. The Paspaleys also add other touches throughout the property that pay homage to the family’s background, like pearl shells in the bathrooms and contemporary Aboriginal art in guest rooms from their home country.

Along with these ties to Australia, the hotel holds an important connection to New York and the Financial District: formerly known as the Tontine Building, the six-story beaux-arts structure housed the first New York Stock Exchange in 1792.

But it no longer serves as a trading floor (the Stock Exchange moved down the street from the hotel). Details like the interior entrance that passes by the restaurant wine cellar, the vast selection of coffee-table books to peruse from in the lobby’s lounge and the warmth emitted by the ample natural light create a 180-room hotel that allows you to make yourself comfortable — you’ve arrived home.

Our Inspector's Highlights

  • The boutique hotel’s residential vibe applies to the rooms as well. Raid the pantry for complimentary toiletries and travel essentials like sleep masks and lens-cleaning cloths.
  • The dining room of the hotel restaurant, La Marchande, feels much like the menu: a modern take on a French brasserie with two banquettes equipped with fully functional curtains and a raw bar with a pearl finish.
  • Expect thoughtful, luxurious amenities, like Bang and Olufsen Bluetooth speakers, Frette linens, Le Labo toiletries and two thermostats — one controls the temperature of the heated bathroom floor. The gleaming marble and wooden credenzas open to reveal glassware, a Nespresso machine and an ample stock of Evian.
  • Interior designer Liubasha Rose’s choice of colors — breezy blues and pale greens — offers a graceful nod to the family’s maritime roots and the nearby East River. The palette infuses guest rooms and hallways with a breath of fresh air.
  • Begin or end your day in the exceptional comfort of the Lounge on Pearl. The plush armchairs invite you to sit down, stay awhile and take in the hand-painted, extensively detailed mural of New York City’s history that runs along the walls.

Things to Know

  • When open, the wrap-around terrace of the rooftop bar provides eye-level views of the rarely seen architectural details of the surrounding buildings.
  • The flexible configuration of many of the suites — one double bedroom on every floor can connect to an adjoining suite with an exterior private door — makes it easy for traveling families and large parties alike at the New York hotel.
  • The chef’s table tucked above the restaurant’s bar and right off the second-floor kitchen will provide the ultimate private dining experience.
  • Only natural for the city that never sleeps, you can access the fitness center 24/7. The well-equipped gym comes with a full-scale ring setup, a fitness mirror, two Peloton bikes and treadmills.
