Fairmont Rio de Janeiro Copacabana

Classic glamour on the beaches of Brazil
VERIFIED LUXURY

Visit Brazil’s most influential strip of sand and tap into the famous 1950s glamour of Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro as a guest of Fairmont Rio de Janeiro Copacabana. The oasis of luxury provides a more subdued getaway along the raucous waterfront — especially from its striking elevated infinity pool that looks out over the ocean.

The Fairmont brand’s first property in South America boasts 375 rooms and suites, along with two swimming pools, a spa and sauna, four restaurants and bars, and meeting spaces. While modern, the hotel gleans inspiration from Copacabana’s golden years and the beauty of Brazil, from Alessandro Gruetzmacher and Christian Cravo's framed Rio photographs adorning the guest room walls to flooring that mimics Copacabana’s undulating black-and-white-striped sidewalk.

Our Inspector's Highlights

  • Stay in one of the Fairmont Gold Rooms for exclusive access to the Gold Lounge, which spoils you with breakfast, snacks, cocktails and a private check-in and checkout service.
  • Make time to visit the Willow Stream Spa. The 4,300-square-foot, white-filled haven encompasses five treatment rooms, a relaxation area, a steam room and a sauna, making it a wonderful place to unwind. Or visit the adjoining beauty salon and fitness center.
  • On Saturdays and Sundays from 10 to 11 a.m., the Rio de Janeiro hotel offers complimentary art and design tours around the property that highlights the work of Brazilian architect Patricia Anastassiadis and 1950s-style craftsmanship.
  • Tapping into the natural hue of the Atlantic Ocean, each accommodation features deep blue highlights to offset the creamy furnishings, dark coral accents, golden parquet floors and warm marble in the bathroom. Choose from views of Copacabana Beach, Sugarloaf Mountain or the city, which you can enjoy from your room’s balcony.
  • The outdoor lounge area beneath the towering hotel is where to go for sunning, taking a dip in the beautiful pool and watching the world go by.

The Restaurants

  • The elegant yet casual Marine Restô serves as the main restaurant. With a panoramic sixth-floor balcony overlooking the ocean, Marine Restô lets you feast with your eyes before diving into a plate of fresh raw oysters, the catch of the day (served either as a carpaccio appetizer or cooked whole as an entrée) and cavaquinha (a local shellfish similar in flavor and texture to lobster).
  • The high-end coffee shop Coa & Co Café serves your choice of caffeine, along with a variety of sandwiches, salads, ice cream, fresh pastries and desserts. Be sure to try the traditional Brazilian cheese bread, which also comes stuffed with goiabada, a local guava jelly.
  • Find live music and craft cocktails at Bar Spirit Copa. The drinks list provides many options, but don’t skip the national tipple, the caipirinha, made with the local spirit cachaça, as well as sugar, soda water and lime. Pair a beverage with sharable plates such as ceviche, Brazilian fried empanadas, guacamole, sausage cooked in cachaça with okra, and handmade Brazilian cheeses.
  • Dine by the ocean at Tropìk, the hotel's beach club, with service beginning at breakfast and ending at cocktail hour. The food here takes more of a Mediterranean twist, but like all the menus at Fairmont Rio de Janeiro, it incorporates traditional Brazilian dishes as well. The venue also hosts live shows and samba dancing.
