PARKROYAL COLLECTION Marina Bay, Singapore

Singapore’s garden in a hotel
VERIFIED LUXURY

Passing through the doors of PARKROYAL COLLECTION Marina Bay, Singapore is like stepping through a portal to an enchanting tropical retreat. In sharp contrast to the bustling Marina Bay business district just outside, the impressive light-filled lobby of this eco-friendly stay provides a welcome respite to the weary traveler.

Thanks to a $45 million refurbishment in 2020, the Singapore hotel is a serene sanctuary of style with nature-inspired interiors imagined by the late American architect John Portman. Designed to reflect a garden in a hotel, the property not only features lush indoor landscaping and glass greenhouses but also environmentally friendly touches, including rooftop solar panels and a sparkling outdoor pool illuminated by low-energy fiber optic lights.

A serene spa, rooftop green spaces and even six songbirds living on the property’s fourth floor — only until 3 p.m. daily, when their keeper takes them home — complete the surprisingly relaxing ambiance of this 583-room hotel. It’s a leafy retreat from the bustle of Marina Bay.

Our Inspector's Highlights

  • At 21 stories, PARKROYAL COLLECTION Marina Bay, Singapore’s atrium is one of the largest in Southeast Asia and a striking upgrade thanks to the hotel’s recent renovation.
  • Six unique dining venues ensure you never go hungry at the Singapore hotel. From progressive Chinese cuisine and sushi to steakhouse favorites and craft cocktails, any craving can be satiated here.
  • This hotel doesn’t just talk the eco-friendly talk. Every room is outfitted with a water filtration system, eliminating the need for plastic bottles. The typical plastic food and beverage items (think coffee stirrers, takeout plasticware, straws, cups, etc.) have been replaced with biodegradable alternatives. The hotel’s urban farm contains 60 plants whose vegetables, herbs and flowers are used in the onsite restaurants, bars and spa. Plus, the property has energy-efficient digesters installed, which break down food waste in an environmentally friendly manner.
  • The lush rooftop bar provides a welcome escape from the bustle of city life without sacrificing those spectacular skyline views.
  • You’ve never seen indoor landscaping like this. The Marina Bay hotel is lushly adorned with more than 2,400 plants, trees, shrubs and ground covers, featuring more than 60 types of flora. Enjoy a stroll along the impressive Skybridge to take it all in from above.

The Look

  • The nature motif continues in the striking light-filled atrium with suspended floral sculpture Orchidea by famed American wire artist Richard Lippold, and a 43-foot-tall green wall in the lobby designed to emulate a traditional Chinese landscape painting.
  • Stop by the atrium in the evening for a unique experience. At 7, 8 and 9 nightly, a two-and-a-half-minute light show immerses the 21-story atrium in a spectacle of color synced to music designed to highlight both the architecture of the space and the suspended sculpture that occupies it.
  • The luxury hotel’s lobby houses two towering sandalwood sculptures of ancient Chinese philosophers Li Bai and Confucius. These sculptures, made by renowned Taiwan artist Ju Ming, date back to the 1980s.
