1 Hotel Toronto

A sustainable-chic sanctuary in Toronto
VERIFIED LUXURY

1 Hotel Toronto opened its doors in August 2021, ushering in a breath of fresh air to the King West neighborhood. As the sixth property in the growing 1 Hotels portfolio and the first in Canada, the Toronto hotel brings the eco-friendly brand's ethos to life by being nature-inspired, sustainability-focused and community-oriented while delivering luxury hospitality. Designed by top architecture and design firm Rockwell Group, the hotel offers a vibrant, lively experience thanks to the more than 3,000 plants that adorn nearly every space on the green property.

Steps from the bustle of Toronto's waterfront, the glossy dining and entertainment of the King West district or the local artsy shops of Queen West, 1 Hotel Toronto is in the middle of it all. A destination in its own right, the hotel lets you enjoy stylish drinks and a unique wrap-around terrace vista at Harriet’s Rooftop or lunch at the farm-to-table 1 Kitchen restaurant while people- and streetcar-watching along Bathurst Street.

Our Inspector's Highlights

  • The luxury hotel’s lobby entrance and adjacent Flora Lounge are like stepping into a lush garden with greenery as far as the eye can see. Beautifully crafted wooden accent tables dot the lounge, each naturally unique, made by local company Just Be Woodsy, which salvages fallen trees in the city to give them new life as art-driven pieces.
  • Harriet’s is a sophisticated rooftop bar, crafted by L.A.-based hospitality and lifestyle brand The h.wood Group. It’s the same company behind Delilah in West Hollywood and Las Vegas, frequented by the likes of Justin Bieber and Drake. At Harriet’s, expect Japanese-influenced sharing plates with cocktails and a lounge vibe, complete with expansive views of the Toronto skyline.
  • 1 Kitchen serves cold-pressed juice and coffee, breakfast, lunch and dinner with a farm-to-table philosophy that focuses on sourcing local, sustainable ingredients. It operates with zero waste. Casa Madera is a modern Mexican-Mediterranean restaurant. Both take advantage of the onsite Garden Pavilion, complete with a “bee hotel,” for organic herbs and greens grown.
  • The rooftop outdoor pool deck and plunge pool are exclusively for guests and provide a stellar southeastern view of the city. It has an equally matched drinks list, from high-brow champagne to slushy frosé.
  • The Field House is not your average hotel gym. Sure, it boasts Peloton bikes, but it goes the extra mile with natural running treadmills, a Concept2 Rower, a rock-climbing wall, a TRX system, AstroTurf and a proper weight-lifting rack.

The Rooms

  • The Toronto hotel comes with 112 guest rooms, including 21 suites, all with floor-to-ceiling windows that let in plenty of natural light. The 1,150-square-foot Willow House and the 2,000-square-foot Birch House sit at the top end.
  • Warm, inviting accommodations with natural knits and fabrics, including 100 percent organic cotton linens, create a home-away-from-home feel.
  • Mini-bars feature many local, artisanal goods and products, like Dillon’s gin or Hardbite chips.
  • Every room has been outfitted with water filtration systems, and you are provided with chic water tumblers and carafes made from recycled wine bottles.
  • Small touches, like coat hangers that tell you which recycled products they are made from (i.e., wrapping paper) or recycled napkins that provide “Get Brewing” instructions for the coffee, all hold a dual purpose: to minimize waste and to gently educate.
