The Ritz-Carlton, St. Thomas

A modern Caribbean escape

Following a two-plus-year, $100 million renovation after 2017’s Hurricane Irma, The Ritz-Carlton, St. Thomas is back and better than ever. New contemporary island décor complements resort-wide ocean views, and a spacious layout provides places to gather as well as quiet corners to get away.

The property sits on Great Bay, an enticing beach for sinking toes into sand and ordering cocktails from your lounge chair, or opting for gratis adventures like kayaking, snorkeling, windsurfing and paddle boarding.

Two pools sit only steps away from the shoreline: a new one for families, and a remodeled cabana-lined infinity pool just for adults. A DJ takes requests poolside all day, and live music floats across the beach at night. Nearby are the spa and restaurants, where you’ll be tended to by friendly staff.

Native flora and local cuisine, as well as maps and art displayed throughout the resort, pay homage to the U.S. Virgin Islands’ beauty and culture. Look no further for a satisfying and authentic island experience.

Our Inspector's Highlights

  • The Ritz-Carlton, St. Thomas’ reception area sports a sweeping ocean view, including nearby islands, leaving no doubt that you have arrived in paradise. Enjoy a glass of refreshing lemongrass iced tea as you check in.
  • Paved pathways guide your short journey to the beach, and bellmen provide golf cart rides between buildings as needed. The resort’s expanse means it never feels crowded.
  • The Ritz-Carlton has a scenic event space for meetings, workshops and celebrations. Attend a yoga session — or catch a glimpse of a wedding — at the seaside pavilion.
  • Bring your boat shoes. Daily trips aboard the property’s 55-foot catamaran Lady Lynsey depart from the resort to nearby St. John and the British Virgin Islands, in addition to daily sunset sails.
  • The St. Thomas hotel boasts four mouthwatering restaurants: Bleuwater for a tropical breakfast, Sails for a beachside lunch, Coconut Cove for Caribbean cuisine and the new Alloro for a Sicilian dinner.

Things to Know

  • To shop in historic downtown Charlotte Amalie, ask for a taxi on a day when the cruise ships are in, as more stores will be open. Nearby Red Hook is always active, from daytime shopping and dining to evening dancing and live music.
  • A partnership with Little Switzerland makes jewelry shopping and fitting a breeze; have pieces sent to the luxury hotel from any store on the island, or browse the exclusive selection in the lobby.
  • The recently refreshed spa has an extensive service menu. Guests rave about the Stress Relief Massage.

The Rooms

  • With a modern beach-chic aesthetic, the 180 rooms at The Ritz-Carlton, St. Thomas balance wicker baskets and woodgrain desks with cool colors and contemporary appliances.
  • Find a retreat in the spacious bathrooms, which have double sinks, separate showers and a standalone curved white tub that begs for long soaks.
  • There are four Presidential Suites and 16 Executive Suites. Presidential suites boast a notably generous bathroom size — two showers, two sinks and a soaking tub fit with room to spare.
  • Every room has at least a partial ocean view and a furnished balcony. The Freesia building, however, houses rooms with panoramas of Great Bay and St. John.

For the Kids

  • The family-friendly hotel proactively reaches out before your stay to learn children’s names, ages and interests. At check-in, an attended play area has age-appropriate books, toys and games ready for your little ones.
  • Resort program Ritz Kids hosts daily activities led by certified staff. Young guests can enjoy filmmaking, water sports, cooking, nature exploration and more with knowledgeable activity leaders.
  • Children signed up for activities gather at the new family pool, where you can meet and mingle with other groups and take advantage of the poolside coffee stand.
