The St. Regis Venice

Venice’s Hot Waterfront Address
VERIFIED LUXURY

As you glide by gondola into the entrance of The St. Regis Venice, the breathtaking beauty of the ancient palazzo inspires awe.

Dating back to the 17th century as the Grand Hotel Britannia, The St. Regis debuted a stunning renovation in 2022. Historic legacy meets modern luxury in the 169 guest rooms and suites decorated by Sagrada, a London-based design studio. Nearby architectural marvels — including the Santa Maria Della Salute Basilica, the Punta Della Dogana Museum and Gran Teatro La Fenice — and the way Venice’s light changes throughout the day and reflects on the waters of the Grand Canal inspired the designers. The resulting contemporary guest rooms, which boast views of the storied cityscape or The St. Regis’s secluded garden, feel elegant, warm and artful.

After you take in the artful interiors, visit the hotel’s Italian restaurant or two bars. All of them offer alfresco options to get a front-row seat to the verdant private garden with curlicue topiaries and fragrant roses or the stunning canal.

Our Inspector's Highlights

  • You can’t beat The St. Regis’s fantastic location in the heart of Venice. It’s the largest waterfront property in the city and a short four-minute walk from the galleries, restaurants and shops of Piazza San Marco.
  • Art plays an essential role in the identity of The St. Regis Venice. The interior remodeling of the public spaces pays homage to Carlo Scarpa, a famed Venetian architect. The luxury hotel has an artist-in-residence program that features the work of French painter Olivier Masmonteil. Fans of Ai Weiwei will swoon when they see The St. Regis’ pièce de résistance, White Chandelier, a commissioned glass installation by the Chinese master sculptor made in collaboration with Berengo Studio. Ai used white Murano glass to shape the glass vine chandelier, creating a unique ball of light in the lobby.
  • Properly dubbed the Arts Bar, the hot spot for locals and tourists includes cocktails inspired by famous works of art by the likes of Jeff Koons, Banksy and more.
  • Get a waterfront seat at Gio’s Restaurant and Terrace. As you take in the view, enjoy authentic Italian specialties like pasta filled with squid, burrata with panzanella, and classic pomodoro made with three types of tomatoes.
  • The St. Regis Venice joyously celebrates all things Italian, from the gorgeous rose gardens that overlook the canal to the Spritz Trolley that roams the public spaces offering guests aperitifs. If you want to immerse yourself in the ancient city's rich history, you’ll do it successfully at The St. Regis.

Things to Know

  • The property is the first hotel in Italy equipped with a state-of-the-art electric boat charging station. As part of The St. Regis’s commitment to sustainability, the hotel operates an electric water limousine. Guests can charter a boat for private tours and to get around the city.
  • The Venice hotel isn’t just a haven for modern artists. During The St. Regis’ long history, many famed artists, including J.M.W. Turner, John Singer Sargent and Claude Monet, found inspiration inside its rooms. In fact, Monet painted a few of his most beloved pieces at the address. The hotel pays homage to him with the Monet Suites, which feature a color palette that mimics the artist’s paintings and has large windows overlooking the canals.
  • You can look forward to the pleasures of other St. Regis properties served with an Italian twist. Take advantage of the famed butler service for help unpacking or making a massage reservation. And don’t miss the evening’s champagne sabering, held at dusk in the garden overlooking the canals.
  • Although the hotel does not have a spa, it provides Spa Suites, a set of rooms open daily for treatment appointments. Book in advance to ensure you get your massage or facial to unwind.
