L'Restaurant

A love letter to local ingredients
VERIFIED LUXURY

Like pied-à-terre tucked away in a residential neighborhood, Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star L'Ermitage Beverly Hills is known for its unique perks, like having all suites, personalizing pillowcases and crafting refined dishes at L’Restaurant. The all-day restaurant is zealous about housemade everything, right down to the cocktail bitters and herbs de Provence spice on the bar snack popcorn.

Helmed by chef Sarah Stearns, the menu is a playful mashup of Israeli, Californian and French cuisines. For example, try shakshuka for breakfast, deviled eggs and avocado toast for lunch, and Regiis Ova osetra caviar and steak in a black peppercorn marrow sauce for dinner.

Radiating a 1920s-supper-club vibe, the intimate interiors feature an ornate Venetian chandelier, looming leather booth seating and works by Angeleno artists. There’s also a lush patio and private dining room. With a discreet ambiance, attentive service and a menu curated by a passionate chef, L’Restaurant is a destination for discerning food enthusiasts to indulge in a memorable meal.

Our Inspector's Highlights

  • A love letter to hyper-local, seasonal ingredients, the menu changes weekly to highlight peak flavor-produce that the L.A. restaurant sources from the Beverly Hills Farmers Market.
  • L'Restaurant's wine menu is 450 bottles deep from around the world, but it’s predominately French. Some standouts include a 2004 Krug Brut and 1996 Dom Pérignon.
  • Request French-born Joe Lauro, L’Ermitage’s head waiter for more than 15 years and a local restaurant legend. (Before that, he worked in iconic French restaurants in L.A., like L'Orangerie and Ma Maison.) Lauro’s formal service is a refreshing change in the city’s cool-casual dining landscape.
  • If you’ve never tried dry-aged fish, look for it on the menu and order the featured catch, like whole branzino. (Dry-aging fish has the same effect on steak: a wonderfully complex, umami flavor.)
  • At breakfast, don’t miss the salmon Benedict with sautéed spinach, tomato and hollandaise. For lunch and dinner, try the indulgent Regiis Ova osetra caviar with rye doughuts, crème fraîche and chives.

Things to Know

  • Many Hollywood deals and iconic movie ideas — Legally Blonde, for example — were dreamt up at the hotel’s Writer’s Bar. Order the signature L’Ermitage Martini (vodka, strawberries, basil, lime juice and agave) and toast to cinema magic.
  • L’Restaurant’s menu is available at the casual, next-door lounge, home to live jazz music on the weekends.
  • Vegans, you’re well cared for here. Some of the most outstanding dishes on the menu are vegan, like the fried tofu with mushroom farro porridge, beet tartare with mustard sauce, and warm strawberry-rhubarb crumble.
  • The dress code at L’Restaurant is business casual.
  • Reservations are highly recommended at this popular Beverly Hills restaurant.
