The Spa at Mandarin Oriental, Marrakech

A Moroccan journey to the Far East
VERIFIED LUXURY

Spread out across more than 19,000 square feet, The Spa at Mandarin Oriental, Marrakech is a source of solitude with a sense of place.

Though you’re surrounded by red-bricked columns, high-arched ceilings and a spectacular ornamental pool, when your Thai massage or acupuncture treatment begins, you’ll feel as if you’ve been transported to a tranquil therapeutic center in the Far East. The spa menu at the Forbes Travel Guide Four-Star spa takes on Thai, Chinese and Berber influences so that you can draw on the best wellness practices from each culture in a luxurious garden-filled setting.

But by the time you fully relax in the hammam, your body will thank you for the journey.

Our Inspector's Highlights

  • Designed by French firm Gilles & Boissier, the expansive spa area was inspired by the cathedrals and mosques of Andalusia. You’ll notice that the space sports tiles, arches and columns that tastefully pay homage to the region’s local architectural styles.
  • The Moroccan hammam is a central feature of The Spa at Mandarin Oriental Marrakech. Based on traditional hammam therapies, the offering here is a step up in luxury and attention to detail with a steam, body exfoliation and cleansing rinse.
  • Open bay windows look out from the pool area to exterior gardens, bringing a light, airy feeling indoors.
  • Time Rituals — a signature Mandarin Oriental service that allows you to book a time slot and work with a therapist to create a custom treatment to suit your needs — allow you to get the best combination of services.
  • Regular wellness classes are scheduled in the spa facilities. Whether you want to work out alone, book a personal training session, take a belly dance class or join in on another group activity, there are plenty of options available for fitness buffs.

Things to Know
  • Book your treatment in a spa suite to enjoy a private garden with a peaceful ambiance. You’ll also have time to relax and unwind post-service.
  • Male and female hammam attendants are available so that you’ll feel at your most comfortable. Couples hammam treatments are also an option.
  • Taste traditional Moroccan refreshments, like mint tea and milk or orange blossom water, post-treatment in the lounge area.
  • The luxury spa provides treatments to anyone over 16 years of age. Let staff know when booking if you have any health issues so that it can suggest the best services for you.

The Treatments

  • Focusing on the head, eyes, neck, shoulders, hands and feet, the Digital Wellness Escape is the antidote to the stress and strain of the modern world.
  • For a locally inspired indulgence, opt for the Moroccan Rose and slip into a bath of aromatic blooms. After the soak, you’ll have a full-body wrap and argan oil facial, followed by a head-to-toe massage with fragrant rose, argan and prickly pear oils.
  • Global beauty traditions are also incorporated at the Marrakech spa, such as the Aculifting (acupuncture) procedure which uses traditional Chinese medicine to help reduce the effects of aging.
  • To scrub off a long day in the souks, try the Sensational Exfoliation. Grains of argan powder, orange peel and brown sugar are used to exfoliate the skin, followed by an application of beneficial oils and extracts that leave your face feeling radiant.

The Facilities

  • The spa has six spa suites, an indoor heated pool, a yoga studio, a manicure and pedicure studio, a salon, a Thai massage room and two hammam treatment spaces.
  • Grab a workout in the state-of-the-art fitness center or sign up for a private session with one of the gym’s personal trainers or yoga instructors.
  • A 73-foot lap pool offers an excellent option for those who would rather take their workout to the water.
  • The hammam areas are replete with zellige tiles and marble slabs, taking the traditional Moroccan steam bath up a notch.
  • Each of the spa suites has not only a tastefully decorated treatment area, but also a private outdoor garden area with chairs to relax or, in some cases, receive treatments.
