Forbes Travel Guide performs independent, incognito inspections of all hotels we rate. This is what we paid when we stayed at this hotel.

Rates can vary widely by room type and season. "We Paid" is intended to give a general sense of price, but you might find considerably different rates for your trip.

When we book, we aim for the optimum season for the destination, but we avoid holidays and major public events, when prices are highest. We generally book a room at one category up from the most basic.

We take advantage of promotional rates, when possible. That means the rate you see above might have included other benefits, such as spa or meal credits.

Tucked away inside one of the most prestigious hotels in the city, The Peninsula Spa knows how to put on a show.
From a snazzy 24-karat gold mosaic-tiled wall to inviting teak-tree sculptures, the interior design at the chic spa doesn’t skimp on the mood-pleasing furnishings.
A little bit yin, a little bit yang, The Peninsula's treatment philosophy is a mixture of modern and ancient, Asian and European.
The nature-inspired space offers a trove of services and products that are therapeutic and meant to rejuvenate and relax you.
Check in for your treatment and you’ll be guided to the Asian Tea Lounge, which is where you’ll have your welcome tea ceremony. Sipping on a glass of organic tea will put you in the mood for whatever comes next — a marine-mud scalp massage, detoxifying algae foot mask, enzyme refining facial, or, we suggest, all three.

Things to Know

If you’re in a rush, or just want a jolt of pampering, the luxury New York spa does offer shorter treatments.
Not only is the spa menu at this Asian-inspired retreat designed with the use of exquisite products, but you can purchase them after your treatment in the spa lobby. Pick up the massage oil or salt scrub used during your treatment to enjoy at home.
If you happen to forget your training gear, the staff will supply you with a T-shirt, shorts and socks to get you prepped for a run on the treadmill.

The Treatments

The spa menu was created using a combination of Indian Ayurvedics with European techniques and a grounding influence of Asian philosophy.
For a complete renewal, book the Spirit of Peninsula body treatment. This head-to-toe treatment includes a refreshing footbath, full-body salt exfoliation, soothing oil massage, and detoxifying hand, foot and scalp mask.
Based on the Indian tradition of balancing your personality type, or dosha, Ayurvedic treatments combine advanced massage techniques with oils, herbs, pastes and muds to bring you back to clarity.
The Refining Enzyme Facial offers the promise of a healthy glow (and an intense clean feeling), while the Microdermabrasion Facial treats common problems like fine lines, sun damage, scars and acne.
This spa recognizes that men want to look good, too, and has created an appropriately macho list of therapies. Try the Mankind treatment, a 90-minute session that includes an oil and aromatherapy neck, shoulder and back massage, along with a pressure-point, energy-releasing foot massage.

The Facilities

The steam room at this spa isn’t just any steam room, and the showers aren’t just plain showers; the thermal suites inside of the tranquil building are full of sensational appeal.
Inside the separate men’s and women’s areas, you’ll find an aromatherapy steam lounge, where a refreshing eucalyptus scent will soothe your nerves.
The experience showers include a multitude of water settings; rinse off under a rainforest sprinkling or let the water attack from all sides.
If the heat is all too much, an ice fountain loaded with refreshing ice shavings offers chilly instant relief.
Along with the you-won’t-regret-it treatments, you’ll gain access to the cutting-edge fitness center, 42-foot pool and floor-to-ceiling windowed Movement Center, where you can stretch your way through yoga, Pilates and core workout classes.
