Tierra Luna Spa

A desert haven that looks to the cosmos
VERIFIED LUXURY

As its name hints, Tierra Luna Spa at Arizona Biltmore, A Waldorf Astoria Resort draws on the earth (tierra) and moon (luna) to create a unique desert haven. The spa’s Sonoran Desert surroundings inspire treatments that apply desert botanicals, foster a cosmic connection and spur dynamic recovery.

But Tierra Luna also does that outside of its 12 treatment rooms. The spa’s Sol Garden lets you get closer to the desert's beauty. The alfresco green space sits among cacti and desert flowers with a fire pit, Jacuzzi, cold plunge and more. If you prefer to shield yourself from the sun, the coed relaxation lounge entices with soothing, earthy décor, including a roaring fireplace, or opt to huddle at the fireplace and sofa in the women’s locker room area.

The spa, built in 2021, differentiates itself with a menu full of unusual offerings like a mud and crystal bar, an onsite astrologist who consults birth charts and cosmic forces, and services that deliver desert healing.

Our Inspector's Highlights

  • When the desert air leaves your skin parched, try the reviving Orange Blossom Ylang Exfoliation. An agave dry brushing uses sugars and honey enzymes to exfoliate, and you’ll be slathered with a citrusy body polish with bergamot and bitter orange oils that will make your skin soft and supple.
  • You won’t want to leave the inviting relaxation lounge. Wearing a lightweight terry robe with oversized lapels, you’ll sit next to the fireplace and sip a cup from the tea menu (the stress-relieving Nirvana, the balancing 100 Mysteries or the anti-inflammatory Steeping Beauty).
  • This looks and feels like a desert oasis. Take the relaxation lounge, whose design consists of stone floors, sand-colored walls punctuated with macrame and other art, locally handmade wood furniture and neutral-hued sofas and chairs with vivid Southwestern-patterned pillows. And of course, the lounge weaves in elements of Frank Lloyd Wright with custom metal screens that mimic the ubiquitous Wright-inspired Biltmore blocks around the property. The treatment rooms have tilework that also resembles the Biltmore blocks but in a soothing sage color.
  • Soak up the Arizona sun in the Sol Garden. There, boost your circulation in the Jacuzzi and cold plunge pool, enjoy a session in the infrared sauna, partake in the restorative misting or simply unwind in front of the fire pit or on a chaise lounge.
  • One of the most popular services is the Lucid Awakening. First, your skin gets exfoliated with a woven agave cloth. It jump-starts lymphatic drainage and detoxification, which helps your immunity and the nervous system. Then rich vetiver body butter will be rubbed into your skin and it ends with an energizing scalp massage.
  • There aren’t run-of-the-mill massages and facials here. The Phoenix spa goes beyond the usual with cosmic offerings (astrology readings) and soaking experiences (the Goddess Bath Ritual washes away negative energy and celebrates your inner goddess).

The Treatments

  • The Alchemy Mud & Crystal Wrap encases you in detoxifying indigenous mud that is supposed to soften skin and aid circulation. The therapist adds essential oils and a crystal to enhance the energy in this customized service. Afterward, the resident astrologer will give you a reading.
  • During the Luminous Quartz Cryo & Thermal Facial, your face will be treated to a lymphatic drainage massage using gua sha(a form of Chinese medicine), alternating use of warm and cool cryotherapy tools and desert extracts to tone the skin.
  • The spa provides salon treatments like manicures and pedicures — which may employ desert botanicals, CBD or gemstones — along with hair and makeup services.
