When the hometown hero is Bobby Jones, you can bet Atlanta has solid places to swing a golf club. While Atlanta’s private clubs are some of the best in the Southeast, there are several public courses that are worth a trip to the fairway.
Stone Mountain Golf Club. Hit the links on two good courses here including the challenging Stonemont and resort-style Lakemont. And Stonemont’s opening hole was, until recently, rated as the hardest par four in the state.
The Frog. Located off I-20 in Villa Rica sits one of the best public courses around. Rated 4.5 stars by “Golf Digest,” the Frog is one of the best in the state and plays host to several celebrity tournaments throughout the year.
Charlie Yates. Adjacent to East Lake Golf Club (which is the site of the PGA’s annual season-ending Tour Championship) is an 18-hole executive course minutes from many in-town neighborhoods. Players also love Charlie Yates for its large natural turf driving range.
