The best way to take in the attractions of Auckland is by heading harbourside. Hop on a ferry and head over to Waiheke Island for a delcious day of wine tasting and cheese plates. Or if you'd rather something more active, get yourself over to Rangitoto, the last volcano to erupt in Auckland. Take a hike (or hitch a ride on the tractor) to the top for the best views of the city. (Check out more info on the ferry service here.)
Back on the mainland, the biggest drawcard downtown is the Sky Tower. Rumour has it that the tallest buliding in the southern hemisphere was erected to add a point of interest to the Auckland skyline. If you're feeling brave talk a walk around the rim of the building or take a bungee plunge.
If you can cruise outside of the city centre, head out to Mission Bay for a walk on the beach and a delicious seaside icecream. Or, if there's time for a day trip, head out to the Waitakere Ranges and Piha Beach. There are plenty of different trails to explore, waterfalls to splash around in and rocks to climb.
