I’m not going to lie to you and tell you’ve sampled coffee from every outlet in the city. However, I do know some people who recently have. The judges for the annual Lewisham Hospitality Awards scoured the city for the very best barista skills in Auckland. Here’s their pick of the bunch.

Cereal Killer: Known for its funky and friendly vibe. It’s sitting on the hip strip of eateries just out of town on Dominion Road. The owners pride themselves on being able to provide great coffee to the people.

Catroux: This is arguably Westmere’s standout café, and one of the city’s best hidden gems. It’s simple, yet quirky and boasts a skilled set of baristas.

Twentythree: Grab a seat outside at this popular Mt Eden eatery. It’s a great nest to take your time and sip their delicious brew.

Working downtown, I’ve tried a lot of lattes locally. My favourite comes care of the groovy man brewing the coffees at Best Ugly Bagels in the City Works Depot. They’re the perfect temperature in a take-away cup. However, you’ll just have to be patient, this is a popular spot especially over the weekend.
