What is the best way to see Birmingham in one day?

To see the best of Birmingham in one day, start the day driving down the Alabama city’s 20th Street through the heart of downtown. Pick up a cupcake and coffee from Urban Standard on Second Avenue North; stop in to What’s on 2nd Antique Store for some unique items, and head over to acres of open green space at Railroad Park. Load up on Birmingham history and culture with a trip to the Civil Rights Institute and The Birmingham Museum of Art. Then continue down 20th Street through Five Points South (home to several of Birmingham’s best restaurants) before leaving downtown and heading south on Highway 280.

Exit at the top of Red Mountain and visit Vulcan Park and Museum, where you can see a sweeping view of the city skyline. Then, go east to Mountain Brook Village and explore the Botanical Gardens and the Zoo just across the street from one another. Be sure to do a bit of shopping and pause for limeade at Gilchrist Drugs or a cocktail on the balcony at Avo/Dram. Plan ahead with dinner reservations at Highland Bar & Grill, Café Dupont downtown, or try a local favorite, Daniel George, within walking distance.
