Planters Inn is located at Market and Meeting streets in Charleston. If you’ve never been to the city, you’ll have to take our word that the hotel owner couldn’t have picked a better spot had he placed a stake in the ground when Charleston was being formed back in 1670. While several flourishing businesses rest on Meeting Street, Market is the home of the famed Charleston City Market, an open-daily bazaar where you can find everything from shoes to handmade sweetgrass baskets and jam. The area is the pulse of the city. A host of restaurants (including Forbes Travel Guide Four-Star Charleston Place and, of course, the onsite Peninsula Grill) and historic sites (Gibbes Museum of Art) are all within walking distance as well. And if your shopping bug can’t be cured with souvenir T-shirts, trek a few blocks over to King Street, a retail stretch that features Louis Vuitton, Gucci and a host of other high-end merchants.
