Lavish pampering in Charlotte

18 Treatment Rooms

For years, locals have visited The Ballantyne Hotel & Lodge for its golf, but an overhaul of its palatial spa made it a true destination that draws people from not only Charlotte but from much farther-flung locales, too. A spa of this size wouldn’t be complete without a few luxurious amenities, and this one has them all, including indoor and outdoor pools, a whirlpool, fitness center, eucalyptus steam room, cherry wood sauna and a well-stocked spa boutique.

The Setting

All of the ambling spa — especially its men’s and women’s lounges — oozes a contemporary, stylish sophistication that at once puts guests at ease. The earthy color scheme couples well with dark wood paneling to create a tranquil, comfortable space where you can truly relax and unwind. Each of the 18 treatment rooms — four of which have stunning views of the golf course’s 18th hole — has dedicated towel robe warmers and chromotherapy lighting. The latter uses subtle changes of color based on each guest’s preference, making for an enveloping personalized treatment.

The Treatments

The Spa at Ballantyne prides itself on its Southern roots so it’s no surprise the spa menu draws from Charlotte’s rich Carolina heritage. One of the highlights is the Jasmine Flower Wrap, an intoxicatingly gentle body treatment in which warm jasmine oil coupled with organic grains are used to exfoliate dry skin. Before being wrapping up in warm blankets, a mask of whipped jasmine and shea butter cream is applied to fully hydrate the skin. But the Charlotte spa’s most recent addition, the Carolina Lavender Package, might be the most impressive option. Two unique treatments using lavender sourced from a nearby lavender farm in York, South Carolina, invite pure bliss. Choose a massage or a body wrap using the lavender-infused oils and aromatherapy, which make for utterly relaxing treatments. To cap off the experience, you are treated to a refreshing glass of Carolina Lavender Honey tea boasting locally harvested honey. The rest of the spa menu is filled with ample choices to relax and rejuvenate, including specialty massages, wraps, facials and salon services like haircuts, makeup application and all-important manis and pedis.

The Food

As a hotel guest, you can count on flavorful farm-to-table fare throughout the property’s venues and the spa is no different. Dishes have light, local ingredients and mouthwatering flavor combinations like the housemade turkey burger with a Greek yogurt bun; the kale salad with melon cipollini, goat ricotta, sorghum croutons, barrel-aged peach kombucha and white chia vinaigrette; and the seared salmon with quinoa and amaranth salad with roasted lemon butter.
