Play is proof positive that after nearly a century of welcoming guests to its luxurious grounds, Colorado Springs grande dame The Broadmoor is still introducing fresh ideas and minting new traditions. Part restaurant and part late-night hot spot, Play opened in 2013 with six lanes of glammed-up bowling, a game room and a spirited menu with items such as Guinness beer floats and adult shaved ice topped with locally made liqueurs.

The food menu is as fun as its cocktail list. The globally influenced, easily shareable plates include a variety of sushi rolls and seafood specialties (try the spicy Koh Si Chang calamari with sriracha mayo), hot dogs, flatbreads, sliders and kabobs. A smaller selection of items curated from the all-day menu is served from 10 p.m. until 1 a.m., so you can celebrate late-night spares and strikes with snacks such as Big Island fish tacos and Parmesan-white-truffle popcorn.

The design of Play works with the menu to elevate this unique bowling-alley experience. Lanes glow under shaded chandeliers dripping with gems; tufted leather couches give bowlers a soft place to rest between turns; and a sleek gas fireplace embedded in the wall provides an extra flicker of sophistication and light. The adjacent dining room features dark, wood paneling; red leather chairs; and oversized, drum-shade chandeliers. The overall vibe is retro-chic and, fittingly, antique trophies and black-and-white photographs of historic Broadmoor activities — canoeing, gymnastics and, yes, even bowling — line the walls.
