The best architecture in Delhi would be a close call between the walled city of Old Delhi, and the colonial architecture of Lutyen’s Delhi. The architecture of Old Delhi dates back to the Mughal reign of the 1600s, and includes the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Lal Qila (Red Fort), made entirely of red sandstone. Lutyen’s Delhi, named after the leading British architect Edwin Lutyens, is an area in Central Delhi home to the Rashtrapati Bhawan and Rajpath, the sight of India’s Republic Day parade.
