A stylish steakhouse in Detroit
Celebrity chef Wolfgang Puck does more than lend his name and his famous culinary cachet to MGM Grand Detroit’s new steak restaurant — his top-notch menu and beautifully designed space add considerable gravitas to the Midwest’s most luxurious casino resort. Wolfgang Puck Steak is one of two eateries by Puck at the Forbes Travel Guide Four-Star resort (the other is a pizzeria), and has proved to be a popular dinner destination among the casino’s high rollers.
Inside, warm hues of red, gold and brown encircle guests of the restaurant, located just off the casino floor of MGM Grand Detroit. Even with a bustling gaming area just outside, the restaurant feels relaxed and even intimate. Leather, tweed and umber cowhide are textures found throughout the contemporary dining space. Wall photography features notable Detroit landmarks and skyscrapers.
Wolfgang Puck Steak is a meat eater’s paradise. Grilled steaks and meats are the menu’s signature items, but an array of shellfish and fresh whole fish are also popular. Steak’s much-lauded American wagyu boasts its own bit of celebrity. This Kobe beef menu must-try comes in an 8-ounce filet or a much heartier 32-ounce tomahawk chop option. Steaks are grilled over hardwood and charcoal and finished in a 1,200-degree broiler.
Seafood lovers will enjoy the fresh Maryland crab cakes as a starter followed by pan-seared Atlantic salmon or grilled swordfish. An array of complementary sauces (including an excellent mustard cognac) accompany entrees. Roasted trumpet mushrooms, three-cheese mac and cheese, and a loaded baked potato are savory side dish options.
To appease the sweet tooth, Wolfgang Puck Steak offers a robust dessert menu. The Bittersweet Chocolate Soufflé comes topped with chocolate sauce, mint chocolate chip ice cream and fresh whipped cream. The Baked Alaska is a white chocolate cake served with ginger ice cream and Swiss meringue.
The Detroit restaurant offers 12 specialty cocktails including three barrel aged pre-Prohibition style cocktails. Each specialty cocktail ages a minimum of six weeks in American oak ensuring complexity and flavor. A popular new addition to the drink menu is the tangerine mojito made with freshly squeezed fruit. Among the most popular dessert wine options is the Bigaro from Elio Perrone, a light and refreshing rosé offered by the glass. The Toro Albala “PX” Solera 1985 is a sweet and savory wine with deep chocolate and espresso characters.
Wolfgang Puck is well-known throughout the world.
