  • Atlanta, Georgia, USA

I love three things in life: my family, sports and travel. Knowing that most people wouldn’t find my aunts all that fascinating, I chose a writing and editing career centered around the latter two interests. Before joining Forbes Travel Guide as a Managing Editor, I earned a journalism degree from Georgia State University and penned stories for outlets such as AOL, Citysearch and Destinations Marriott — all of which made my mom pretty darn proud. When I’m not writing and editing, I’m traveling everywhere from Denver to the Dominican Republic with my lovely wife.

What bars does The Ritz-Carlton, Atlanta have?

The Ritz-Carlton, Atlanta has a modern, bustling lobby bar, Lumen, and a smaller bar inside Atlanta Grill restaurant on the second floor. The latter is a tavern-style setup where patrons can go for a quick drink or to mingle while they wait on a dinner table. But if you’re looking for a contemporary setting to properly people watch or check out a big game, Lumen is the place to go. With its mirror-polished metal tables (custom-designed by Brad Oldham, brother of designer Todd Oldham), sheerly shrouded crystal chandeliers emitting a red glow, glimmering beaded corkscrew floor lamps and backlit menus, the place simply sparkles.
The actual bar menu is as vibrant as the scene. Three drinks on the menu — the pomegranate vodka-doused Sky Canvas, the blueberry and mango-pureed Evening Bonfire and the Stoli strawberry and sour apple-infused Seas of Europa — are named after contemporary pieces of art in the lobby, and a guitarist performs nightly. Visiting on a Thursday? Partake in the complimentary 5 p.m. wine tasting with sommelier Brian White.

What is the average price of a room at The Ritz-Carlton, Atlanta?

The average price for a room at The Ritz-Carlton, Atlanta fluctuates depending on the day of the week you visit. The hotel’s average rates are higher during the week because of its popularity with business travelers who want to be centrally located (The Ritz-Carlton is in the main business district and near government offices). Weekday rates start around $400 for Deluxe guest rooms and go up from there for the Executive, Presidential and The Ritz-Carlton suites. Conversely, if you get a room on the weekend, rates will be closer to $200 per night for Deluxe rooms.

What is the dress code at Madison’s?

Much like Madison’s fun but formal menu, its dress code requirements are equally as versatile. Though the central restaurant at Old Edwards Inn & Spa has its regulars who wear blazers and beautiful summer dresses to dinner, there is also a contingent of guests that's a bit less formal in khakis and loafers. So, be it a mere celebration of the weekend or a wedding anniversary, the mood here is unquestionably upscale. The friendly staffers just have a way of not looking down on those who’ve chosen to come to the establishment in slacks and sandals.

    Where is Atlanta Grill located?

Atlanta Grill is located on the second floor of The Ritz-Carlton, Atlanta, at 181 Peachtree Street, N.E. While appetizers and small plates can be ordered at the downstairs bar, Lumen, Atlanta Grill is where to go for a complete dining experience, whether you want breakfast, lunch or dinner (it also serves a Sunday breakfast buffet and a light late-night menu).
While Atlanta Grill resides in The Ritz-Carlton, hotel guests aren’t the only ones who frequent the steakhouse. Because of its enviable downtown location, the Atlanta restaurant is also popular with businessmen in the area and locals longing for a good rib-eye.

What should I pack for a trip to San Francisco?

If you look at a weather report for the Bay Area this very second, we can almost bet that the temperature falls somewhere between 60 and 70 degrees. Though the fog and sunshine roll in and out whenever they like, most days are roughly the same--and your luggage should reflect the mildness (think: light sweater, jeans and sneakers). When prepping for a long day of sightseeing along Fisherman's Wharf or walking across the Golden Gate Bridge, you'll need to have on a pair of comfortable shoes and a couple of layers atop the upper body. By midday though, you should be able to remove the jacket. But do yourself a favor and keep it handy because it'll be down to a breezy 50-something when it's time for dinner.

What’s the best time to visit San Antonio?

Though you can find something to do in San Antonio almost any time because of its 300 days of sunshine, it’s pretty hard to beat the city in late April. Even if you don’t take into account springtime along the famed River Walk or Spurs playoff basketball, there’s Fiesta, a Mardi Gras-like celebration — without all of the lascivious overtones, of course — that revolves around the April 21st anniversary of the Battle of San Jacinto back in 1836. With 11 days full of family-friendly festivals, pin trading, food and parades (including the gigantic Battle of the Roses Parade and dazzling nighttime Fiesta Flambeau Parade), Fiesta shows San Antonio in all of its culture-rich splendor.
