Thomas Wolfe is widely recognized as the first concierge in America, having begun his U.S. career at The Fairmont Hotel San Francisco in 1974 after extensive training at The Ritz London and Paris’ Hotel Lancaster. He founded the first chapter of Les Clefs d’Or in the U.S. and has since worked at The Boca Beach Club, San Francisco’s former Hotel Meridien, The New Otani in Tokyo, The Plaza Hotel in New York and Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts in Asia. In 1995 Wolfe returned to The Fairmont San Francisco, where he serves as chief concierge.
