How do I get a reservation at Goodall’s Kitchen & Bar?

Reservations can be made on the Goodall’s Kitchen & Bar website, which is powered by Open Table. Guests may also call the restaurant (512-495-1800) or stop by in person to secure reservations. It is recommended that you reserve a table as far in advance as possible during busy weekends when there are special events taking place (such as a festival or a University of Texas home football game). If you have not made a reservation, the best walk-in hours for meals are after 1 p.m. for lunch and either early (5 p.m.) or later (9 p.m.) for dinner. In the event the dining room is completely booked, dinner specials are also offered in the bar area between 5 p.m. and 10 p.m.

What is the dress code at Goodall’s Kitchen & Bar?

There is no formal dress code at Goodall’s Kitchen & Bar. In fact, the dining room was designed without white linens on the tables to evoke a welcoming, neighborhood feel while maintaining an otherwise fine-dining atmosphere. Though a button shirt and pants (or casual dress for women) seem most appropriate in this environment, the staff of Goodall’s will undoubtedly greet you warmly no matter what you’re wearing — as will the rest of Austin. Of course, special events may call for more formal attire. If in doubt, do not hesitate to call the front desk of Hotel Ella with questions regarding your dress on a specific evening.

Where is Goodall’s Kitchen & Bar located?

Goodall’s Kitchen & Bar is located on the ground floor of a renovated, turn-of-the-century Greek Revival mansion that opened as Hotel Ella in September 2013. The bar is also located on the ground floor, with a parlor area separating the two. There are also tables and wicker chairs scattered across the large wraparound veranda — perfect for enjoying happy hour cocktails, snacks or a leisurely Sunday brunch. The hotel itself is located in central Austin, on West 19th Street and Rio Grande Street, only three blocks away from the University of Texas campus and less than two miles from the heart of downtown Austin.

What are the rooms like at Hotel Ella?

Hotel Ella has 48 guest rooms, 10 of which are suites. All include high-speed Internet, LED flat-screen televisions, minibar, same-day valet laundry, luxury linens, microfiber bathrobes and twice-daily housekeeping. Five mansion lofts each have a queen-sized bed, while classic guest rooms have either a queen or king bed and all the amenities of a deluxe room. Deluxe QQ rooms come with mahogany furniture and a granite-topped writing desk, and can accommodate up to four people on double queen beds. Garden junior suites contain a king bed with sitting area, overlooking the cabana-lined lap pool and garden courtyard. One floor down, the garden terrace junior suites are identical, except they open up to a poolside, ivy-walled terrace with chaise lounge and bistro table. Four mansion junior suites are found on the second floor of the building. They each feature a king bed, plush settee and Carrera marble bathrooms with walk-in showers. French doors open to a private veranda overlooking the expansive yard. The Ella suite offers the same luxurious marble bathroom, queen-sized bed with adjacent sitting area, and five windows, which let in natural light and provide a view of the lap pool and courtyard.

What restaurants does Hotel Ella have?

Goodall’s Kitchen & Bar is located inside Hotel Ella. The dining room is bathed in cool, neutral blues and warm earth tones. Slate blue leather chairs and a dusty navy blue fireplace pair nicely with soft grey walls and the taupe-upholstered booth lining one side of the space. Bare walnut tables glow in the soft light, sans white linens. Large, curtain-less windows to the north and south fill the room with indirect sunshine during the day, and mirrors also brighten the space with reflective light. Several floral paintings pay homage to Ella’s love of flowers and add gentle accents of color to the muted elegance of the dining room. The bar has a retro feel to it, with a parlor connecting it to the main entrance and dining room. Goodall’s serves contemporary American cuisine with a global twist for breakfast, lunch, dinner, bar snacks and weekend brunch.

What is the design style of Hotel Ella?

While the turn of the century Greek Revival style of architecture is preserved, the hotel’s interior is modernized with smooth, clean lines and a neutral palette. Touches of Art Deco can be seen in the shapes and patterns on pillows, carpets, wallpaper and fabric, while contemporary art hangs on the walls and can be found in the form of sculptures throughout the premises. A display case boasts shimmering antique jewelry dating back to the 17th century, for sale and available to borrow for special events. The upscale style represented in Hotel Ella is beautifully choreographed to create a space that is classic and refined, yet unique and forward thinking.

What is the menu like at Restaurant Jezebel?

The menu concept at Restaurant Jezebel is unlike any other establishment in Austin. In actuality, there is no menu here at all. Upon being seated, your server will conduct a brief interview, asking if there are any ingredients to which you are allergic, or foods you do not particularly enjoy or care to try. The list spans from fruits and vegetables, to seafood and shellfish, to raw and cooked meats, to more exotic game such as kangaroo and antelope. Asian and Indian influence can be seen in some of his creations, which often fuse unexpected elements such as okra with prickly pear reduction and parsnip puree, or combines proteins such as pork belly adjacent to cured opah. Chef Parind Vora works with an array of ingredients in his kitchen, though he only orders a small amount of each — often only enough for two dishes — so every diner’s experience is uniquely customized.

What is the dress code at Restaurant Jezebel?

Restaurant Jezebel is one of the only restaurants in Austin where a jacket is required for male guests. Upon securing a reservation, you will receive an email detailing this requirement. Jeans and cowboy boots are completely acceptable, though flip-flops are restricted. In the aforementioned email, Jezebel also states that, despite the jacket requirement, it does not consider itself to be a “formal” restaurant. Instead, the place wants you to bask in the opportunity to dress up a bit and celebrate in the creative environment. The atmosphere is perfect for a special occasion, seeing as how each table is draped in white linens and set with a silver candlestick holding a tall white taper candle. The resulting light casts a soft glow against the crystal drops of two chandeliers above. Servers only enhance the mood by donning jackets, black pants and white gloves. Though Jezebel strives to exude a funky atmosphere with some of its artwork (and, certainly, with the creative food stylings of Parind Vora), the contemporary American restaurant has a decidedly refined feel to it.

    Where is Restaurant Jezebel located?

Restaurant Jezebel is located in the heart of downtown Austin, on West Sixth Street just east of Lamar Boulevard and west of West Avenue. It is surrounded by plenty of bars perfect for before- or after-dinner drinks, such as 219 West, The Ranch, or Rio, a sultry restaurant and lounge, which boasts a rooftop pool. Restaurant Jezebel is also located conveniently close to several live music and performance venues, such as Austin Music Hall, La Zona Rosa, The Belmont and Ballet Austin. Jezebel is hidden in the back of another establishment called Tapasitas, which is owned by the same chef, Parind Vora. Once you arrive at the restaurant, the hostess will lead the way to a mysterious waiting area where you may order a cocktail or look over the wine list until someone arrives to guide you to your table in the intimate, candlelit dining room.

What restaurants does The Driskill Hotel have?

The Driskill Hotel offers several options for dining. The first is the 1886 Cafe & Bakery. The café is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner on the weekdays, but perhaps one of its most popular meals is the decadent weekend brunch. Housed in what was originally the hotel’s saloon and billiard hall, the café features dark green leather booth seating, Art Deco lamps and hex floor tile. Two of the best seats in the restaurant are the bar chairs facing a window where pastry chef Tony Sansalone expertly crafts sculptural wedding cakes and all the decadent pastries served in the hotel. 1886 also provides a 24-hour, in-room dining menu for overnight guests.

Another dining option, The Driskill Grill, is a portrait of dining at its finest. The grill includes touches such as a dark wood bar cart, ornate carved wood ceiling tiles and red velveteen curtains, the latter allowing sections of the restaurant to be sectioned off for privacy. Executive chef Troy Knapp and chef de cuisine Skyler Golden prepare a nightly four-course market menu and five-course tasting menu, both employing locally sourced meats and produce. Parties of up to six can experience the latter served at the chef’s table that includes dishes specially prepared according to each diner’s personal preferences. Recent menus have featured grilled Strube Ranch wagyu flatiron steak with truffled purple potato puree, Bordelaise, collard greens and maitake mushrooms and grilled Texas quail with creamy polenta, pan roasted cauliflower and a black currant demi-glace.

The traditional pub menu and atmosphere of The Driskill Bar is much more relaxed. Big, soft leather couches beckon guests into dim corners while a fireplace warms the space, flickering off the intricate copper ceiling tiles. There are daily food and drink specials from 4 or 5 p.m. until 7 p.m., as well as live music most days of the week.

What’s the best time to visit The Driskill Hotel?

Because of its very central location and proximity to Sixth Street and the Paramount Theatre, The Driskill Hotel is the perfect place to stay for festivals such as South by Southwest in March, The Moontower Comedy Festival in April, the ATX Television Festival in June, Austin City Limits and the Austin Film Festival, both in October, and the Formula 1 U.S. Grand Prix in November. However, for a less crowded experience, plan on visiting in late September, April or May. The weather is most ideal at this time of year, too, making for great lounging on the Sixth Street or Brazos Street balconies of the hotel, or for strolling through downtown and exploring the many outdoor activities Austin has to offer.
