A sprawling spa on Vietnam’s Ho Tram Strip
14 Treatment Rooms
Nearly everything at the Ho Tram Resort Casino Vietnam is on a larger-than-life scale, and The Spa inside the palatial resort is no different — at almost 18,000 square feet, the spa is a swoon-worthy destination in its own right with herbal steam rooms, heated mosaic lounge chairs, treatment rooms with ocean views and a lovely alfresco yoga deck adjacent to a first-rate fitness center.
Treatment areas are divided into two wings. Four treatment rooms are designated for men, four are for women, four are unisex rooms and two rooms are meant for couples. The latter are double in size and include a steam shower and a Jacuzzi for two. Most rooms feature large marble bathrooms and accommodate varying degrees of light, from serene windowless rooms to sunny ones that look out over the ocean or sand dunes.
The Spa offers a good range of massages, and four of them are categorized by intent — Relax (Swedish or Eastern-meets-Western fusion massage using long strokes), Purify (gentle stimulation of pressure points), Deep Tissue (deep massage with stretching and draining movements) and Invigorate (strong, even pressure delivered with a stimulating oil blend). Hot stone and Thai massages are available, too.
Also on offer: body wraps and scrubs, facials and body rituals, including an exfoliation/massage treatment that runs two-and-a-half heavenly hours. The signature treatment here is the Ho Tram ritual, a hedonistic, personalized 90-minute session with two therapists each working on separate parts of the body. Guys get their own treatments from the Man Space menu, which includes facials, wet shaves and mud scalp massages. Separate hair salons are available for both genders, although the women’s salon is ultra plush, with views out of pool. Each offers hair services as well as treatments for hands and feet. Bonus: The Spa provides services poolside and by the beach.
If you want to take the spa home with you, the retail area sells products from Davines, Pevonia and La Champa, a Vietnamese brand used during treatments, as well as shampoos, lotions, candles and other oh-so-fragrant accessories.
Adjacent to the Vietnam spa, there is a 24-hour fitness center where you’ll find all the requisite machines, including treadmills and weight machines with views over the pool area and the ocean beyond. A large outside deck can be used for yoga or stretching. Early risers should take advantage of free yoga classes by the pool (they start at 6:30 a.m.).
Yes, spa goers enjoy hot tea and sesame cookies after their treatment in the lounge area, but the space also has two massage chairs where complimentary 15-minute back, hip, neck and head massages are doled out to weary hotel guests (one free treatment per stay).
More luxury amenities abound. The herbal steam rooms have twinkle ceiling lights and large bundles of lemongrass. A spacious locker room area has keypad locks and a set of three experiential showers (rainwater, high pressure and mist), which decrease in temperature, the ideal way to cool down after a steam. Relax on heated stone chairs while reading a newspaper or sipping a bottle of water —the marble and granite mosaic chairs are pressure- and heat-sensitive.
