What are the best day trips near Houston?

If you long for the nostalgia of the boardwalk complete with sea breeze, carnival rides and the smell of funnel cakes wafting into the air, the Kemah Boardwalk is only about an hour from downtown Houston.  Popular restaurants include the Flying Duchman, Red Sushi, and Salt Grass Steakhouse.  If you don't mind venturing off of the boardwalk a bit, Opus Bistro is a fantastic fine dining choice in the town of Kemah.

Or, if you’d like to actually take a dip in the water, Galveston Beach is just a hop, skip, and a jump from downtown Houston as well.  Other than catching rays and playing beach volleyball while you are there, you can also spend a few hours enjoying the exotic rainforest or aquarium at Moody Gardens, scream yourself silly on the Iron Shark coater on our brand new Pleasure Pier, or even have an amazing seafood dinner at Gaido’s.  However, if you find yourself too exhausted to drive back into the city, I’m sure you’ll find a decadent room at the beautiful Hotel Galvez.
