From bargaining with expert tailors on prices for custom-made shirts, suits and dresses to browsing for beachwear and tacky-but-irresistible souvenirs at locally owned boutiques and shops, Chaweng Beach is where you’ll find the best shopping in Koh Samui and the greatest variety of products. Like in any heavily touristed spot in Thailand, there are no shortage of shops to choose from in Chaweng selling swimwear, name-brand sunglasses (knock-offs and legitimate), postcards, magnets, t-shirts and other various trinkets and knick-knacks. This is also a good place to shop for cotton hammocks and Buddhas of all sizes made from wood, plastic, marble and other materials. If you’re shopping for Buddhas, however, our Forbes Travel Guide editors note that Thailand only allows you to take up to five five-inch-or-taller Buddhas out of the country per visit; there are no restrictions on smaller Buddhas.
