Although there are separate men’s and women’s locker rooms, the relaxation lounge at Chuan Spa London is a communal area located on the main level of the Forbes Travel Guide Four-Star spa, just behind the screens surrounding the reception area. Cream-colored chaise lounges topped with Chinese printed pillows are neatly arranged in a circle behind overlapping, elegant high screens made from multi-colored swatches of Asian fabric. Side tables resembling Chinese drums stand next to the chairs, neatly displaying magazines like Where, Wired and Elle plus a headset that you can plug into an outlet on your chair to listen to music and block out any outside noises. The headsets are occasionally necessary if it's very busy at the reception desk at a given moment, since the screens stop short of the domed, recessed ceiling. In glass display cases surrounding the screens, you’ll find Thalgo beauty products available for purchase, plus additional magazines should you not like the selection next to you. Although we love the dramatic, old-world elegance of the relaxation lounge — thanks to ornate moldings and twinkling chandeliers dangling from the ceilings — we do wish it were slightly more private to help keep the flow of movement throughout the London spa as seamless and tranquil as can be.
