Unlike a traditional American spa, London’s The Berkeley Health Club and Spa doesn’t have an official relaxation lounge where you can head before or after your treatments. Instead, you’ll find a small enclosed waiting area immediately outside the treatment rooms, offering a chaise lounge for seating along with a selection of current magazines ranging from Elle Decoration to Vogue, plus both fruit-infused and bottled water should you get thirsty while waiting for your treatment to commence. You won’t be able to recline here, though, as it’s really just a spot for a quick sit, so if you’re looking to continue that Zen frame of mind following your massage, you’ll want to head upstairs to the outdoor terrace. Here you’ll find padded lounge chairs that you can top with a towel. The Astro Turf is a little kitschy, but the flowers are lovely, and you really feel like you’ve discovered your own private oasis in the London sky. Yes, you will be sharing the terrace and pool area with hotel guests, but the best time to relax there is between the hours of 2 and 4 p.m., when children are not permitted to use the pool. You can even order a lunch of tuna sashimi or a Caesar salad to maximize your enjoyment while waiting at the spa.
