Cabo San Lucas' oceanside spa retreat

10 Treatment Rooms

Tucked inside The Resort at Pedregal, Luna y Mar spa is a 12,000-square-foot oceanside retreat within walking distance to Cabo San Lucas’ vibrant downtown. While the accessible location is great for spa and resort guests, its vibe is far from busy and buzzy.

Built underneath the main check-in area, the spa feels cool and sheltered from the minute you enter the massive wood-carved door, almost as if you’re in a mountain cave.

Treatments are designed around the moon’s phases (hence the “moon and sea” name) and offer an emphasis on indigenous ingredients and therapies.

The Facilities

You will get a dramatic welcome before treatments even begin, entering Luna y Mar through a massive wooden door that rotates on its axis much like the moon for which the luxury spa is named. Designed by Sylvia Sepielli, one of the world’s most renowned spa designers, the facilities have been carefully crafted to evoke a relaxing ambiance from the moment you arrive.

Browse a well-edited selection of spa products before being escorted to the subterranean spa facilities, which offer a cooling respite from the harsh Mexican sun. Change into fluffy robes in private locker areas before taking a plunge in the Jacuzzi-style pools, a heated break in the sauna and steam areas, or a cool down in the ice cave.

Pre- or post-treatment, nestle in the relaxation area with a cup of herbal tea, the latest magazine and a snack like coconut-stuffed dates. Enjoy your moment of Zen.

The Treatments

Go for one of the signature treatments, offered in tandem with the four phases of the moon. They range between 120 and 180 minutes and include a combination of scrubs, wraps and massages to restore mind and body. For example, the Nourishing Moon features a honey, brown sugar and jasmine scrub, which is followed by a jasmine-infused body wrap and scalp massage; a rose and jasmine oil massage ends the treatment.
The massages are particularly wonderful on their own as well, as is the Sábila Sun Healer, which uses mineral-rich algae and aloe harvested from the resort grounds to help soothe sun-damaged skin.

After taking your treatment in a private overwater bungalow, ask the therapist to open the curtains so you can gaze out at the private saltwater meditation pool and ocean beyond.

The Mexican-Themed Treatments

Luna y Mar takes pains to incorporate traditional Baja elements and the Mexican folk tradition of curanderismo (native or shaman healers) into many of its treatments. Every visit starts with a cleansing foot scrub with local herbs and lime, and the menu is full of authentic services. We’d suggest the indigenous herbal detox, a mud wrap that promises both slimming and decongesting properties. Other treatments suggest the flavors of the Baja instead, using ingredients like coconut, lime, and aloe vera to get you in the vacation spirit.

The Salon

The laidback vibe of The Resort at Pedregal doesn’t require an elaborate blowout to head to dinner, but sometimes a girl (or guy) needs a little glamming up while on vacation. The full-service salon, which is popular with brides, offers hair treatments as well as cuts, color and makeup and waxing services.

Pamper your feet in particular with one of four 80-minute indulgent pedicure services that include a 25-minute foot and calf massage, wrap and more.

The Gym

The well-equipped fitness center in the Cabo San Lucas spa is meant for those who want to take their gym time seriously. Enjoy a wide variety of group activities and classes daily, ranging from yoga and Pilates to TRX strength training and video-on-demand classes, too.
