Mumbai has a plethora of well known five star hotels, but if you prefer something a bit quieter and more unique, there are also some fabulous boutique hotels. No matter which part of Mumbai you are staying in, there is sure to be something to suit your style.
Gordon House Hotel
Located in a great location just around the corner from the Gateway of India, Gordon House Hotel is surprisingly peaceful. Hidden behind its white facade are three floors that take you away from India to the Mediterranean, the Country or Scandanavia. The rooms are comfortable and tastefully appointed in an understated style.
Stepping back out at street level you will find yourself near some of the city's best restaurants, boutiques and tourist sights. If you are looking for something in Colaba that is quiet but still close to the action, then Gordon House Hotel is just what you are looking for.
Le Sutra Hotel
The World's first Indian Art Hotel, Le Sutra is a unique hotel experience. With each of its sixteen rooms based on either a character or characteristic from Indian mythology, you are taken on a journey through the country's philosophy as part of your stay here. Each room is lavishly decorated with artefacts, sculptures and furniture that demonstrate a specific mythological character. It is certainly worthwhile asking to see some of the other rooms here so that you can see just how unique the interior design is.
Located in the Western suburb of Bandra, Le Sutra is right in the middle of Mumbai's cafe culture and the seaside is just a short walk away. Bandra is famous for being home to many Bollywood celebrities and is also where the rich and glamorous come to play, so be sure to get ready to party here.
Further north in the suburb of Lokhandwala is the minimilisatic Swedish inspired Svenska Mumbai. With its dark wood and white interiors, this hotel has understated style. For those that like their toys, it also comes with iPad controls and Wii consoles.
Located near the commercial district of Andheri, Svenska Mumbai is perfect for business guests. It is close to the International Airport, some of the city's best shopping malls and Bollywood studios.
