Mumbai has quite a large Jain community, and hence some lovely Jain temples. The most famous Jain Temple in Mumbai is the Babu Amichand Panalal Adishwarji Temple that is located in Walkeshwar in Mumbai’s Malabar Hill district. The Jain community are generally quite prosperous, and this is reflected in their stunningly decorated and ornate temples. With colorful statues and detailed paintings, the Babu Amichand Panalal Adishwarji Temple is a fine example of Jain Architecture.
As you enter the temple you will be greeted by two carved stone elephants on either side. Inside the building, look up and be dazzled by the domed ceiling that is decorated in detailed zodiac symbols. Take your time walking around and discovering the beautiful detail in the sculptures and paintings. Downstairs you can see many idols on display, giving you a peek into the history of Jainism.
The temple is best reached by road, and is a short drive from the Gateway of India and Colaba, taking about 20 minutes unless there is a lot of traffic.
