What should I pack for a trip to Orange County?

When headed for a warm climate, not overpacking is key. After all, how much room can bathing suits and cover-ups take up? As Orange County is sunny all year-round, you’ll definitely want to pack sunglasses and flip-flops. There are countless beaches for you to visit, so a bathing suit and sunscreen is also a must. You can get away with bringing some casual clothes since it’s California, but you’ll also want to look nice next to all of the designer-label sporting O.C. housewives. Also, Orange County is made up of coastal towns, which means you’ll want to bring some sweaters because it does get chilly at night. Of course, don’t be caught without your camera. The area boasts some of the most incredible views from its beaches, piers and parks, with plenty of snap-worthy shots for your photo album.

During my recent trip to Orange County in May, I was surprised that it wasn’t as hot as I expected. If you’re staying along the coast, definitely pack a light sweater or jacket for the chillier evenings. While California is known for its idyllic climate, be sure to remember warm weather staples such as sundresses, sandals and sunglasses. Orange County affords numerous outdoor activities, so bring along sunblock, too. Of course, the area is filled with countless photo ops, and you don’t want to forget a camera.

In terms of bags, a tote is ideal for beach activities whereas a purse with a strap to go over your shoulder works best for daylong excursions. I was happy to have a fuss-free purse during my day at Universal Studios and the Aquarium of the Pacific.

Don’t bring too much on your trip to Orange County, as you’ll want to save room in your luggage for all of your shopping acquisitions. As far as clothing is concerned, always pack a bathing suit, since you’ll likely want to enjoy the pools/spas at The St. Regis Monarch Beach, as well as the beach. For evening strolls and dining under the stars, bring a light sweater, jacket or pashmina, and you’re set.
